Meet Mateo: The Teen Behind This Teen Travelz
Hi, I’m Mateo. — a 13-year-old hotel reviewer and the creator of This Teen Travelz.
I’m not a travel agent or an adult blogger. I’m a teen who spends more than 50 nights a year in hotels with my family. After staying in dozens of properties, I realized something was missing: most hotel reviews aren’t written with teens in mind.
That’s why I started This Teen Travelz — to create honest, real-world hotel reviews based on what teens and families actually care about, from Wi-Fi quality and room comfort to pool vibes, tech setup, and overall experience.

I review hotels from a teen’s perspective to help Gen Z travelers and families find stays that truly work for them. Over the past year, This Teen Travelz has grown into a dedicated platform featuring hotel reviews, travel guides, and tools designed specifically for teen-friendly travel.
Below is a little more about why I started this project, what makes my reviews different, and how hotels and brands can work with me.
Why I Started This Teen Travelz
After years of family road trips, vacations, and hotel stays, I noticed that most reviews focused on things like conference rooms, business lounges, or corporate travel perks. As a teen, I had different questions:
- Can I actually game here?
- Is the pool fun or just there?
- Will the Wi-Fi hold up for streaming or gaming?
- Is the room comfortable enough to hang out in?
So I started reviewing hotels from my point of view — sharing real footage and honest feedback to help other teens (and their parents) make better hotel choices.
What Makes This Teen Travelz Different?
🧠 Teen-focused reviews — I look at what matters to teens, not just adults.📶 Real Wi-Fi testing — I test and compare internet speeds during every stay.
🎮 Tech-friendly rooms — I check how easy it is to connect consoles and devices.
🏊 Amenity & vibe checks — Pools, gyms, lounges, and shared spaces all matter.
🧳 Real travel experience — I’ve reviewed 40+ hotels across the U.S. and Canada, with Marriott properties making up a large part of my stays.
I travel exclusively with my parents and take a thoughtful, respectful approach to every review.
How I Review Hotels as a Teen
When I stay at a hotel, I review it the same way every time — based on real use, not first impressions.I focus on:
- Wi-Fi performance — speed, stability, and whether it actually works for streaming and gaming
- Room comfort & layout — desk space, outlets, lighting, and overall usability
- Tech setup — how easy it is to connect a gaming console, laptop, or devices
- Amenities & shared spaces — pools, gyms, lounges, and how welcoming they feel
- Location & practicality — walkability, nearby food, and ease of getting around
Every review is filmed and written after staying at the hotel, and I travel exclusively with my parents. My goal is to give an honest teen perspective that helps families and other teens know what a stay is really like.
