Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? You’re in the right place. I’m Mateo, a 13-year-old hotel reviewer who checks out everything that matters to teens — from Wi-Fi speeds to pool vibes. I put this page together to answer the most common questions people ask me about my channel, my travels, and how I review hotels.
I’m Mateo, a 13-year-old traveler who reviews hotels from a teen’s perspective.
Most reviews are written by adults — but teens care about different things. Wi-Fi speeds, gaming setups, pool vibes, and just the overall feel of a hotel matter way more to us. Honestly, a lot of the time teens are just being dragged along to a hotel. This channel gives teens a chance to know what to expect before visiting, and maybe even give their parents feedback on where to stay next.
Yes! Most of my reviews are from regular family trips. Sometimes I get media rates, discounts, or hosted nights, but I always share my honest thoughts — no sugarcoating.
I use the Ookla Speed Test app on both my phone and my dad’s. We take screenshots of the download, upload, and ping results, and then I add the best ones to my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard
For gaming and streaming, I consider hotel Wi-Fi fast when download speeds are at least 50 Mbps with low ping. Higher speeds are always better, but stability and latency matter just as much as raw speed. That’s why I test Wi-Fi at every hotel and track the results on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard so you can see which hotels actually deliver.
Hotel Wi-Fi can be good enough for gaming, but it depends on the speed and latency. For smooth online play, I look for download speeds above 50 Mbps and low ping. That’s why I test Wi-Fi at every hotel and track the results on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard, so you can see which hotels actually deliver for gaming.
Most of the time, yes! I’ve been pretty lucky getting my Nintendo Switch connected to hotel TVs. In every review, I let you know if console hookup worked — and if it didn’t, I try to leave tips for what you might need to make it happen.
Yes, most of the time — but it depends on the hotel’s network. Some hotels use login screens or restrictions that make it harder for consoles to connect. In my reviews, I always let you know if my Switch connected easily, needed extra steps, or didn’t work at all.
Usually no. Most hotels require guests to be 18 or sometimes 21 to check in alone. Policies vary by hotel and location, so it’s always best to check directly with the hotel before booking. For my stays, I’m always traveling with my parents, but this is a question I get asked a lot.
My reviews are quick, honest, and fun. Every video and blog covers:
- Wi-Fi & tech
- Pool vibes
- Gaming setups
- Food & lounge options
- Nearby attractions
Basically, everything that matters when you’re deciding if a hotel is worth your time.
Yes! I have a Work With Me page for collaborations. If you’re in the hospitality world and want an authentic, next-gen perspective on hotel experiences, I’d love to connect.
Definitely. My dad sometimes doubles as my cameraman, and he teaches me a lot about SEO, marketing, editing, and running my website. My mom came up with the name This Teen Travelz and helps research places to eat and explore near hotels. She’s also my toughest critic, which I really appreciate.
Usually not — I’ve been lucky that most big road trips happen during school breaks. If one does land during school, I work hard to finish assignments before leaving so I can enjoy family time without stressing about homework.
I love throwing my Buc-ee’s splash football around with my dad or sister. Outside the pool, you’ll usually find me playing UNO with my sister or crushing a round of Mario Party or Mario Kart on my Nintendo Switch.
