Staying at the Buffalo Marriott at LECOM HARBORCENTER puts you right in the middle of one of the most walkable, activity-packed areas in downtown Buffalo.
After staying here with my family, I’ve gotten a good feel for what’s actually worth doing as a teen — not just tourist attractions, but places that are fun, easy to get to, and don’t feel forced.
This teen-focused guide covers things to do near the hotel, with a mix of walkable spots and short drives — all from a real teen perspective.
If you want the full teen hotel review — including the room, Wi-Fi, M Club lounge, and what it’s like staying here — check out my Buffalo Marriott at LECOM HARBORCENTER teen hotel review.
Quick note: If you’re looking for the Buffalo Marriott Niagara, I’ve reviewed that property too — and you can find that teen hotel review right here on This Teen Travelz.
To make planning easier, I’ve added a custom Google Map below with the key places mentioned in this guide — including walkable spots, short drives, and must-see attractions near the Buffalo Marriott at LECOM HARBORCENTER. It’s a quick way to see what’s nearby and decide what fits your trip best.
Since food is a huge part of staying in this area, I also put together a separate Best Restaurants Near the Buffalo Marriott (Teen-Friendly Guide) with walkable spots, short drives, and places my family actually tried.
Walkable Things to Do Near the Buffalo Marriott
One of the biggest perks of staying at this hotel is how much you can do without needing a car.
Canalside (Steps from the Hotel)
Canalside is the main reason this hotel’s location is such a win. In the winter, it turns into a fun hangout with ice skating and ice bumper cars. During our stay, my mom and I tried the bumper cars (way more fun than they look), while my dad and sister went skating.
In the warmer months, Canalside completely changes with kayaking, water bikes, food trucks, concerts, and festivals. No matter the season, there’s usually something happening — and the best part is you can walk there in under a minute.
KeyBank Center (Connected to the Hotel)
The hotel is directly connected to the KeyBank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits. It also hosts concerts and major events throughout the year.
This makes the hotel an amazing choice if you’re coming to Buffalo for a game or show — no traffic, no parking stress, and you’re back in your room minutes after the event ends.
Ice Skating & Ice Bumper Cars
One of the coolest surprises during our stay was realizing how much ice-related fun is right outside the hotel. Between public skating sessions, ice bumper cars, and seasonal events at Canalside, there’s always something icy and fun going on in the winter months.
Even if you’re not a strong skater (like me), there are still ways to get involved without feeling left out.
Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park (Short Walk)
This is one spot I really want to check out on a future visit. It’s the largest inland naval park in the United States and features massive ships you can walk through, including a destroyer, cruiser, and submarine.
If you’ve seen my Aloft Wilmington review, you know how much I love ship and battleship tours — so this one is high on my list for next time.
Solar-Powered Buffalo Heritage Carousel (Walkable)
Right at Canalside, this 100-year-old wooden carousel looks vintage but is actually powered entirely by a solar roof, which is pretty cool. It’s more of a quick stop than a long activity, but if you’re walking around the waterfront — especially with younger siblings — it’s worth checking out.
Explore & More Children’s Museum (Great for Younger Siblings)
Located right at Canalside, the Explore & More Children’s Museum is perfect if you’re traveling with younger siblings. It has multiple interactive zones and even a rooftop play area.
While it’s geared more toward younger kids, it’s a great option for families who need something everyone can enjoy within walking distance.
Sahlen Field (15-Minute Walk)
If you’re visiting during baseball season, Sahlen Field — home of the Buffalo Bisons — is an easy walk from the hotel. It’s a fun, relaxed way to spend an evening and another example of how much you can do without needing a car.
Buffalo Metro Rail (Steps from the Hotel)
For anyone not driving, the Buffalo Metro Rail station is right outside the hotel. It’s free downtown and then turns into a traditional subway as it heads north.
It’s a surprisingly easy way to get around downtown Buffalo and adds a bit of city-exploring freedom for teens.
Things to Do a Short Drive Away
If you’re okay with a quick drive, these spots are absolutely worth adding to your plans.
Pierce-Arrow Museum (Short Drive / Walk – Reopening 2026)
The Pierce-Arrow Museum focuses on Buffalo’s automotive history and feels more like an art gallery filled with vintage cars than a traditional museum.
It’s currently closed for renovations and expected to reopen in Spring 2026, but it’s definitely one to keep in mind for a future trip.
Buffalo RiverWorks (Short Drive)
Buffalo RiverWorks is a massive entertainment complex built inside old grain silos, and it’s one of the most unique places to hang out near the waterfront. Depending on the season, you’ll find things like skating, zip lines, ropes courses, live events, and food all in one spot. My sister played in a hockey tournament here when she was younger and still talks about it — it’s one of those places that actually lives up to the hype.
Shea’s Performing Arts Center (Short Drive)
Shea’s Performing Arts Center is one of Buffalo’s most iconic venues, known for Broadway shows, concerts, and special events. The historic interior alone makes it worth a visit if you’re into live performances.
Bonus Day Trip
Niagara Falls (30-Minute Drive)
And of course, Niagara Falls is only about a 30-minute drive away. Whether it’s your first time or a repeat visit, it’s still one of those places that never really gets old — especially if you’ve got extra time during your stay.
Final Thoughts
What makes staying at the Buffalo Marriott at LECOM HARBORCENTER special isn’t just the hotel — it’s everything around it. You can walk to Canalside, sporting events, entertainment, and food without needing a car, which makes trips way more relaxed and flexible.
From a teen perspective, this area has the right mix of freedom, fun, and variety. Whether you’re here for a game, a short getaway, or a family trip, there’s always something to do nearby — and most of it is right outside the door.
