Hotel Review: Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Orillia – Benchmark Breakfast, Clean Rooms & Kid-Friendly Touches

If you’re heading to Orillia, Ontario for a quick getaway, family event, or a road trip stop, the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Orillia delivers a standout stay. Friendly staff, spotless rooms, a surprisingly well-equipped gym—and the best Fairfield breakfast I’ve ever had. Add in kid-friendly touches like a front-desk treasure chest and easy access to local eats and classic Ontario stops, and you’ve got a winner.

First Impressions & Check-In

We arrived just after 2:30 p.m. and were greeted by Jazmine and Matthew at the front desk. Check-in was fast and easy. There were plenty of luggage carts (didn’t even need them—we brought one suitcase this time!). The lobby isn’t huge, but it’s bright and open with a clear view straight to the breakfast area. If we hadn’t returned so late from the wedding, my sister and I would’ve turned that space into our usual UNO zone.

Room Tour

We booked a 2 Queen guest room. It was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed:

  • Large wall-mounted TV
  • Good-sized desk
  • Lots of outlets (no outlet hunting = big win)
  • Microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker
  • Bathroom with a large stand-up shower, solid water pressure, and easy temperature control

Overall: simple, tidy, and practical—exactly what you want for a quick stay.

Tech & Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi connected easily on all my devices (laptop, phone, iPad, Nintendo Switch) and speeds were decent—not the fastest, not the slowest.
👉 See where it lands on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard.

The TV setup was a standout:

  • Back panel clearly labeled for HDMI ports
  • A printed label with step-by-step instructions for connecting external devices (rare—and awesome)
  • Four wall plugs just below the TV/desk area (perfect for a full gaming/charging setup)

Console hookup was plug-and-play. Hotels, please copy this labeling idea.

Pool, Gym & Outdoor Space

  • Pool: small but right-sized for the hotel, with seating that matches the space. There’s also a tiny outdoor nook off the pool with a pair of chairs and a lounger.
  • Gym: better than expected for the footprint—cardio machines, a full rack of free weights, two benches, and even a hardwood training area with a bench (first time I’ve seen that at a Fairfield).
  • Back patio: lots of tables and chairs—great for breakfast on a warm morning or a takeout dinner spot.

Breakfast (The Star of the Stay)

At check-in I was told, “Don’t miss breakfast—it’s quite the spread.” No lies detected. This was hands-down the best Fairfield breakfast I’ve had:

  • Waffles
  • Cheese omelets, scrambled eggs, ham, sausages
  • Huge bread selection
  • Fruit & juices (yes, chocolate milk too)
  • Cereals & yogurt (lots of flavors)
  • Oatmeal with a build-your-own toppings lineup
  • …and more. Constantly replenished and well organized.

From now on, this is my benchmark breakfast for any Marriott brand that includes it in the rate (Fairfield, TownePlace, SpringHill).

Food & Local Eats

Within a 10-minute walk you’ll find: State & Main, Boston Pizza, Montana’s, Booster Juice, Mucho Burrito, Firehouse Subs, Chick-fil-A, and more.

Staff picks (short drive, many along Mississauga Street): Theo’s Eatery, Rustica Pizza Vino, Lot 88 Steakhouse, Couchiching Craft Brewing Co., Studabakers, Niku Sushi.

Classic Ontario stops (also ~10 min drive):

  • Webers – iconic roadside burgers and fries
  • Kawartha Dairy – legendary ice cream and milkshakes
  • Mariposa Market – old-school bakery; grab a Texas donut and butter tarts (we got Skor butter tarts = elite)

Things to Do in Orillia

Winter: Horseshoe Valley and Mount St. Louis Moonstone are each ~20 minutes for skiing.

Bonus: The Treasure Chest

At some point during your stay, stop by the front desk and ask about the treasure chest for younger guests. You don’t see this much anymore—and I love it. Even though we’re teens, the team still made sure we left with a treat. Hotels: bring this back. Little things like this create lifelong memories and brand loyalty.

Final Verdict: This Teen Travelz Approved ✅

Even though our stay was short, the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orillia stands out:

  • Friendly, proactive staff
  • Clean rooms with a great tech setup (device labels, lots of outlets)
  • Pool & gym that punch above their size
  • Back patio for sunny-day meals
  • And the best Fairfield breakfast I’ve ever had (my new measuring stick)

Location is also on point for local eats, classic Ontario road-trip stops, and lots to do around town. Easily This Teen Travelz Approved.

Credits & Thanks

Huge shoutouts to Jazmine, Matthew, Catherine, and Paul at the front desk—friendly, helpful, and always checking on how our stay was going (Paul = hilarious).
And Melody, the breakfast MVP: friendly, fast, and laser-focused on keeping everything fresh and stocked. You’re a huge reason this breakfast sets the bar.

It’s clear the team takes pride here, and the awards back it up: Hotel of the Year, Diamond Circle Award, Chairman’s Award (Marriott Select Brands Awards Gala, Sept 2025), plus earlier honors like Best Opening Hotel (2021) and 2023 performance awards for guest recommendation (Diamond Circle), cleanliness, and staff service.
