Before we even checked in… a robot rolled across the lobby and took the elevator to someone’s room.
That’s when you know this isn’t just another downtown Buffalo hotel, and why this Westin Buffalo hotel review is worth checking out.
Welcome to my Westin Buffalo hotel review — a hotel I’ve stayed at multiple times over the years, and one that has always stood out for a lot of reasons. From the tech to the design to the overall vibe, this place just feels different.
This visit was a quick pre-Christmas overnight stay, and with the hotel recently renovated, I wanted to see how the updated rooms, amenities, and overall experience hold up from a teen perspective.
Let’s get into it.
Location, Arrival & First Impressions
In this Westin Buffalo hotel review, one thing stands out right away — the location.
This downtown Buffalo hotel puts you right in the heart of the city, close to the Theatre District, sports venues, and some great food spots.
There are two main entrances to the hotel, and both give off a slightly different first impression — but they flow together into one really well-designed space.
From the street entrance, you’re welcomed into a smaller entry area with seating, umbrellas you can borrow, and access to Jake’s Café and the elevators. Just beyond that is the hotel market and reception desk, along with access to Patina 250.
The market is actually really solid — perfect if you forgot something or just want quick snacks. It even features local Buffalo-Niagara products, which is a nice touch.
And then… there’s something you don’t see at most hotels:
CHIP — The Robot Butler
One of the coolest things about this hotel — and something I’ve loved since I was younger — is CHIP.
CHIP is the hotel’s robot butler, and yes… he actually delivers items to your room.
The front desk can load items inside him, and he’ll take the elevator up and bring them right to your door.
They’re now on CHIP version 3, and this version even plays music while moving through the hotel.
Seeing younger guests react to CHIP for the first time is honestly one of my favorite parts — because that used to be me.
If you enter from the valet side, the vibe shifts into a much larger lounge-style space with tons of seating, a fireplace, and a really warm, comfortable atmosphere.
The valet team here is always super friendly, and that’s something I’ve noticed every time I stay.
Another small detail I always notice? The hotel’s signature scent — I don’t know what it is, but it just hits every time you walk in.
Check-in was quick and easy. Wendy helped us out and was super friendly and helpful. I also ran into Ryan, who has been working here for years and is always a great resource for anything about the hotel or the area.
During the holidays, this hotel really stands out. The decorations are classy, not overdone, and just make the space feel even more welcoming.
The Room Setup at The Westin Buffalo
We were originally booked into a traditional guest room with two king beds, but my dad used one of his Marriott Bonvoy Nightly Upgrade Awards to move us into a Junior Executive Suite with 2 King beds — and that upgrade made a big difference.
After the renovation, the hotel actually replaced their queen rooms with two king beds, which is a huge win for families. Having that extra space really changes how comfortable the room feels.
The suite itself was spacious, clean, and had a really nice balance of bright and warm lighting.
The beds? Classic Westin Heavenly Beds — super comfortable and definitely lived up to the name.
The room featured two king beds, a seating area with a sofa, a large desk workspace, and a big TV on a swing-out mount.
But the standout feature was the separate dining area.
It included a full kitchenette, dining table for four, full-size fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and wet bar — which made the space feel more like a small apartment than a hotel room.
There was even an Amazon Alexa Show device, which added to the tech-forward feel of this stay.
The bathroom was large and bright, with a stand-up shower that had great water pressure and a built-in bench.
Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup
In this Westin Buffalo hotel review, Wi-Fi was easy to connect across all devices — laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch.
But speed-wise, this is where things dropped off a bit.
I clocked:
- 14.9 Mbps download
- 14.3 Mbps upload
At the time of testing, this performance ranked 41 out of 51 hotels on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard — so definitely on the lower end compared to other stays.
Gaming setup itself was straightforward.
The TV being on a swing-out mount made things easier, and once I swapped the HDMI cable, everything worked perfectly.
One big plus after the renovation was the outlet setup — there were plenty of outlets throughout the room, including USB and USB-C, which made charging everything super easy.
Food Options
Food is another area where this Westin Buffalo hotel gives you a lot of flexibility.
Inside the hotel, you’ve got Patina 250, which is a really solid upscale restaurant that focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Western New York. My parents and I had breakfast there, and everything was really well done. My dad and I both went with the “2 Eggs Your Way,” while my mom had the avocado toast. Simple choices, but executed really well — and shoutout to Shanoyia for great service.
For something quicker, there’s also Jake’s Café, which is perfect for grabbing coffee or a quick breakfast. My sister ended up stopping there later and had their egg sandwich, which my dad always recommends — and it definitely lived up to expectations.
One thing I liked about this stay was having the dining area in our suite. On a really cold Buffalo day, we picked up food from Wegmans and just ate in the room, which ended up being one of the most relaxed parts of the stay.
And if you’re heading out, there are plenty of great options nearby. From wings at Gabriel’s Gate to BBQ at Fat Bob’s or casual spots like Pearl Street Grill, you’re covered.
And if you’re driving into Buffalo, one stop you really shouldn’t skip is Paula’s Donuts. I had their cannoli donut and it was honestly one of the best I’ve had.
Things to Do Near the Hotel
One of the biggest advantages of staying at The Westin Buffalo is how central the location is.
You’re right near the Theatre District, which means places like Shea’s Performing Arts Center are just minutes away. Whether it’s a Broadway show, a concert, or a comedy tour, this is one of the best areas in Buffalo for live entertainment.
If you’re in town for sports or larger events, KeyBank Center is also nearby, hosting Sabres games, Bandits games, and major concerts throughout the year.
A short drive takes you down to Canalside, which is one of Buffalo’s most popular waterfront areas. In the winter, you can skate along the canals or try ice bumper cars, and in the summer, the whole area transforms with kayaking, outdoor concerts, and food trucks.
If you’re planning to spend time around Canalside, I actually put together a full teen-focused guide with everything nearby — from activities to food spots.

If you want to explore a bit more of the city, Elmwood Village and Allentown are both great neighborhoods filled with local shops, restaurants, and cafes.
One thing that makes this hotel a little different is that it also offers Niagara Falls shuttle tours directly from the lobby, which makes visiting the Falls a lot easier without needing to plan everything yourself.
And one place we personally never skip when staying here is the New Era flagship store, which is less than a five-minute walk from the hotel. We go every time… and somehow my dad always leaves with another hat.
Bonus: Buffalo City Hall Observation Deck
One spot that’s definitely worth adding to your list is the Buffalo City Hall Observation Deck.
Located less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, it’s one of the best views you can get of the city. You start by visiting “Windows on Buffalo,” then take the elevator up to the 25th floor, followed by a short walk up a few more levels to reach the observation deck.
The view at the top is incredible and gives you a full look over downtown and beyond.
Buffalo City Hall itself is also worth appreciating. Built in 1932, it’s an Art Deco masterpiece with detailed murals inside the grand lobby, which makes the experience more than just the view.
Just keep in mind that access is limited to weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM.

Final Verdict – Westin Buffalo Hotel Review
So, what’s the final verdict in this Westin Buffalo hotel review?
This is one of those hotels that’s a little different — and that’s exactly what makes it stand out.
It’s not just about the room or the location. It’s the overall experience. From the moment you walk in, there’s a level of consistency here that I’ve noticed every single time I’ve stayed — and that’s not something you get everywhere.
The location is strong, right in the middle of downtown Buffalo, making it easy to get to events, restaurants, and everything around the Theatre District. The rooms, especially after the renovation, feel modern, spacious, and really comfortable — and the switch to two king beds is a big upgrade for families.
But what really separates this hotel for me are a few standout things.
CHIP is one of the most unique features I’ve seen at any hotel, and even now, it still feels just as cool as it did when I was younger. It’s not something you see often, and it adds personality to the entire stay.
The staff here are also consistently great. Every time we’ve stayed, they’ve been welcoming, helpful, and genuinely make the experience better.
And then there’s the gym — which is easily one of the best hotel gyms I’ve come across. It’s the kind of space you actually want to spend time in.
If I had to point out a downside, it would be the Wi-Fi speeds and the fact that there aren’t a ton of teen-focused attractions immediately outside the hotel. But honestly, neither of those things have ever taken away from the experience for me.
This is a hotel I genuinely enjoy being in — whether that’s relaxing in the room, hanging out in the lobby, or just taking in the overall vibe.
And that’s why, from a teen perspective, this one is easy to recommend.

Staff Shoutout
Before I wrap this up, I want to take a moment to thank the team at The Westin Buffalo.
Every time I’ve stayed here, the staff have been welcoming, helpful, and just genuinely great to interact with — and this visit was no different.
A big thank you to Wendy for the warm welcome and for taking the time to show us the Chairman’s Suite. I also really appreciated catching up with Ryan, who has been at the hotel for years and is always a great person to talk to and learn more about the property.
And thank you to Michaela for taking the time to meet with me, share more about the hotel, and walk me through additional room types that I’ll be featuring soon.
It’s those interactions that really stick with you — and they’re a big part of why I keep coming back to this hotel.
