The Augusta Riverwalk is one of the most useful areas to stay near because it connects you to several parts of downtown Augusta.
You can walk along the Savannah River, explore public spaces, see river views, check out nearby museums, find public art, and reach different downtown attractions without constantly using the car.
For my family, that was important because we only had one night in Augusta. Staying near the Riverwalk helped us make the most of a short visit.
Instead of driving somewhere, parking, and then walking around, we could leave the hotel and start exploring almost immediately.
That made the city feel easier to understand.

For our stay, we chose Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center.

The property itself is large and made up of two towers, with the convention center connecting the hotel spaces in the middle. That can make the hotel feel a little overwhelming at first, but the map we received at check-in helped us understand the layout.
For guests attending an event at the Augusta Convention Center, the convenience is obvious. But what surprised me was that the hotel also worked well for a family road trip stop.
We had a spacious suite, two pools, a hot tub, a fitness centre, onsite dining, lounge access, and a walkable downtown location.
That combination made the hotel feel like more than just a conference hotel.
Why the Riverwalk Location Helped
The biggest benefit was that we could explore without constantly getting back into the car.
From the hotel area, we could reach the Augusta Riverwalk, Broad Street, Augusta & Co., the Morris Museum of Art, the Augusta Museum of History, public art, restaurants, the Savannah River, and the Fifth Street Freedom Pedestrian Bridge.
That made the trip feel more relaxed.
When you are on a long road trip, sometimes you do not want every activity to involve another drive. Being able to walk from the hotel to different spots made Augusta easier to explore, especially with only one night in the city.

Since it is connected directly to the Augusta Convention Center, guests attending meetings, conferences, or events can stay on property without needing to travel back and forth from another hotel.

For someone looking for a hotel connected to the Augusta Convention Center, this is the obvious type of location to consider.
But what stood out to me is that the location also works even if you are not attending a convention.
Best for Families and Road Trippers
Even though this is a convention hotel, it also worked for my family.
The suite gave us enough space to spread out, which helped because we were travelling together on a long summer road trip. The two-pool setup was also a big plus because the hotel had both an indoor pool and an outdoor pool.
The indoor pool gave families a weather-proof option, and the outdoor pool felt more relaxed and open.
The location also helped because we could explore part of Augusta without needing a big plan. We could walk the Riverwalk, visit Augusta & Co., explore Broad Street, cross the pedestrian bridge, find public art, and still get back to the hotel easily.
For a family road trip stop, that combination made the hotel stronger than I expected.
Best for First-Time Augusta Visitors
If you are visiting Augusta for the first time, staying near the Riverwalk gives you a strong starting point.
Augusta & Co. is nearby and works well as a first stop for local information, souvenirs, and suggestions. Broad Street is also close, with restaurants, public art, historic buildings, and local character.
The Augusta Museum of History and Morris Museum of Art are both in the downtown area, and the Fifth Street Freedom Pedestrian Bridge gives you a memorable walk across the Savannah River.
For our first visit, this location helped us understand Augusta faster.
Instead of feeling like we were staying somewhere outside the main part of the city, we felt connected to the downtown area right away.
Why Walkability Matters With Teens
When you are travelling with teens, walkability matters more than people might think.
Sometimes you do not want every activity to feel like a scheduled attraction. It is nice when you can just leave the hotel, walk around, find food, take photos, check out public art, or discover something you did not expect.
That is one reason this area worked well for us.
The Riverwalk gave us an easy outdoor activity. Broad Street gave us restaurants and downtown character. Augusta & Co. helped us learn more about the city. The museums gave us history and indoor options. The pedestrian bridge gave us a cool travel moment because we could walk from Georgia into South Carolina.
That mix made the stay feel more interesting.
For teens, a good hotel location is not just about being close to attractions. It is about making the trip feel easier, more flexible, and less boring.
What to Know Before Booking
The main thing to know about Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center is that the property is big.
Because the Main Tower and Suites Tower are separated by the convention center area, getting to your room or certain amenities may involve more walking than you expect.
That was not a problem for us, but it is worth knowing before booking.
The hotel is also an older property. It does not have the newest Marriott design everywhere, but during our stay, it felt clean, well maintained, and full of character.
For us, the positives outweighed those drawbacks.
The location, suite, pools, lounge, staff, and downtown access made the stay memorable.
Is Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center the Best Place to Stay Near Augusta Riverwalk?
For my family’s trip, Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center was a strong place to stay near Augusta Riverwalk because it gave us the right mix of hotel amenities and location.
It worked well for a short visit because we could explore without making the trip complicated.
It also worked for different types of travellers. Convention guests get direct access to the convention center. Families get space, pools, and food options. First-time visitors get a walkable downtown base. Road trippers get an easy place to stop without feeling disconnected from the city.
That does not mean every traveller needs the exact same hotel, but for our first Augusta visit, this location made sense.

This hotel is probably best for convention guests, families, road trippers, and first-time visitors who want a walkable downtown Augusta base.
It may be large and a little confusing at first, but once we understood the layout, the location became one of the biggest strengths of the stay.
