If you’re heading down south, road tripping through Virginia, or catching a flight out of Dulles, the Fairfield Inn & Suites at Dulles Airport might be the perfect spot to recharge. We picked this hotel for a one-night stay during our May long weekend road trip, and it ended up being a solid birthday weekend stopover. Super close to one of my favorite museums and packed with consistent Fairfield vibes, this hotel hit a lot of the right notes.
Fairfield Inn & Suites at Dulles Airport First Impressions
We arrived early afternoon after a long morning drive and were welcomed right away by Carmen at the front desk—super friendly and efficient. Check-in was fast, and there were plenty of luggage carts ready to help unload. The lobby had some cozy seating areas and a mid-sized breakfast area just around the corner.
For new readers: I love hanging out in the breakfast area in the evening. It’s the perfect place to unwind, play Uno with my sister, or meet other teens while traveling. Hotels that offer spots beyond the room to chill are always a win.
The Room: Standard But Quiet
We stayed in a 2 Queen Room with Shower, tucked into a quiet corner at the end of the hallway. It had your typical Fairfield setup—clean, simple, and reliable. The room could’ve used more USB and outlet options (especially after a long road trip with a bunch of tech to charge), but otherwise, no complaints.
Even though we were super close to Dulles International Airport, I barely noticed any plane noise from inside the room. Major bonus.
Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup: ✅✅✅
This Fairfield had awesome Wi-Fi. I connected my laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch without any issues. In fact, it ranks in the Top 5 (at the time of testing May, 2025) on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard. Streaming and gaming were both smooth.
The TV in the room was newer and not locked down, which made it super easy to connect my Switch. Pro tip: always travel with a power bar!
Pool, Gym & Atmosphere
So here’s the deal—this hotel doesn’t have a pool anymore. They converted the old pool space into a meeting/party room, and it was actually in use during our visit. If you’re hoping to swim, that might be a letdown.
But the gym was solid! Lots of cardio machines and a full set of weights. For a one-night stay, it checked the box.
What to Eat Nearby
You’ve got a bunch of options close by:
- Cracker Barrel (right across the parking lot)
- Sweetwater Tavern and Lazy Dog Restaurant (recommended by the hotel)
- Wegmans for snacks or quick grocery runs (7–10 min drive)
- And for my birthday dinner? We hit up Texas Roadhouse. Great food and fun atmosphere, but yeah… the wait can be long. Tip: Use their website to join the waitlist ahead of time.
Breakfast Vibes
As a Fairfield, this hotel includes breakfast—and it delivered. The longer hours were great:
- Weekdays: 5–9 AM
- Weekends: 6–10 AM
Makes sense with the airport nearby. The selection was solid and kept well-stocked. Honestly, Fairfield has been super consistent lately with breakfast, and I’m here for it.
Things to Do: Air & Space Fans, Listen Up
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (part of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum) is just minutes away and was the whole reason we chose this hotel. Admission is free; parking is $15.
Top highlights:
- Space Shuttle Discovery
- SR-71 Blackbird
- Enola Gay
- Concorde
- Boeing Stratoliner
If you love planes and space like I do, this is a must-visit. My other top air and space picks include:
- Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (Washington, DC)
- Kennedy Space Center (Florida)
- National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (Ohio)
Bonus: Outlet Shoppers
The Leesburg Premium Outlets are just 15–20 minutes away. We always try to squeeze in a visit, but the museum usually takes up our entire day. If you plan ahead and wear comfy shoes, you might be able to do both!
