I focus on the stuff that actually matters when you’re staying at a hotel as a teen or family: Wi-Fi speeds, Nintendo Switch setup, pool vibes, breakfast, room comfort, location, nearby things to do, and whether I’d actually stay again.

North Carolina Hotel Reviews

SpringHill Suites Lumberton

The SpringHill Suites Lumberton was a bright, newly renovated hotel that worked really well as an overnight road trip stop near I-95. The room had a clean layout, comfy trundle sofa bed, and enough space to relax after a long drive.

Wi-Fi speeds hit 27.9 Mbps download and 43.1 Mbps upload, and the Nintendo Switch setup was easy once we moved the dresser. Breakfast was underwhelming, but there’s a Your Pie pizza spot across the parking lot and a Buc-ee’s about 40 minutes away, so this still worked as a solid North Carolina stopover hotel.

Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center

The Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center was my first-ever Aloft stay — and it happened on my birthday weekend. This hotel had loft-style rooms, balcony views of the Cape Fear River, fun lobby spaces, and a location that made it easy to explore downtown Wilmington.

The Wi-Fi was solid, the Nintendo Switch setup was easy, and the outdoor patio and rooftop bar gave the hotel a fun vibe. Plus, the Battleship North Carolina is right across the river, making this one of the most memorable North Carolina hotel stays on my list.👉 [Read my full review →]

Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley

The Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley ended up being an unexpected stay after a last-minute hotel change, but it turned into a pretty memorable one. The Concierge Lounge was the highlight, with sandwiches, pasta, desserts, and even Oscar night watch party vibes.

The room was comfortable but small, and the HDMI setup was tricky for gaming. However, the Wi-Fi was strong, the staff were great, and Crabtree Valley Mall is right across the street. If you’re looking for a Raleigh hotel near shopping and food, this one has a lot going for it.

Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel

The Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel is a stylish hotel in one of Raleigh’s best walkable areas. North Hills has restaurants, shops, and places to explore right outside the hotel, which makes the location a major win.

The Wi-Fi was fast, the Nintendo Switch setup was easy, and the hotel had a clean, modern vibe. I even ran into NHL players during my stay. The only major issue was that a burst water pipe cut our stay short, but I’d still consider going back because the location and overall experience had a lot of potential.

Charlotte Marriott SouthPark

The Charlotte Marriott SouthPark had clean rooms, hardwood floors, strong Wi-Fi, and a great location near SouthPark Mall. If shopping is part of your Charlotte trip, this hotel makes a lot of sense.

The biggest downside for me was that the TV setup was not very gamer-friendly, and the pool was closed for the season during my stay. Still, for families, shoppers, and anyone looking for a comfortable hotel near SouthPark, this was a solid Charlotte hotel option.
