Hotel Review: TownePlace Suites Brantford and Conference Centre – Teen Travel Stopover Misses the Mark

This stay didn’t go quite as planned. Between hallway plaster, slow elevators, and a hard-to-connect Wi-Fi setup, this TownePlace Suites was a bit of a miss—even though we were only there for a quick overnight.

The TownePlace Suites Brantford and Conference Centre is located in an industrial area of Brantford, Ontario. My family and I stayed here for one night as a pit stop before heading to Detroit to see AC/DC in concert. This hotel opened in late 2019, but parts of it already feel older than they should. From check-in quirks to hot water issues, I’ve got a lot to say—so let’s get into it!

Check-In & First Impressions

We arrived just after 9 p.m. and the lobby was empty at first, but within a couple of minutes a staff member came out and helped us check in quickly. My dad was a bit let down that the Marriott Bonvoy app never sent a room-ready notification, which usually happens at most hotels.

I was also disappointed to see there were no luggage carts available—especially that late at night. Luckily, we packed light for this stop. The lobby itself looked like your standard TownePlace Suites setup, with seating areas that double as the breakfast spot in the morning. There was a bar tucked at the back, but surprisingly, it wasn’t open. Since this hotel is in the middle of an industrial park, you’d expect the bar to be a go-to evening spot.

Our Room Experience

We had a 2 Queen Room on the 6th floor, but getting there was a mission. The elevator was incredibly slow—probably the slowest I’ve experienced so far. And when we got to our floor? The carpet was covered in plaster from recent ceiling repairs.

The hotel had a sign explaining the situation… but it had spelling mistakes, and there was nothing laid down to protect the carpet. It looked messy and unprofessional.

Once inside the room, things improved. It was clean and spacious, and the full-size fridge was a bonus—great for storing drinks. But even though the hotel is under 6 years old, the room felt dated. Furniture was worn, carpet was showing signs of wear, and the HVAC unit wasn’t even turned on when we arrived, so the room was super warm.

The worst part? It took five minutes or more for hot water to kick in during showers. First my sister had to deal with it, and then my dad. Not cool.

Wi-Fi and Gaming Setup

The Wi-Fi login was a pain. It took forever to connect, both on the standard and enhanced Bonvoy member networks. Once we got the first device online, things were easier—and the speeds were surprisingly good! In fact, this hotel ranked #3 on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard over at ThisTeenTravelz.com.

But gaming-wise? A total miss. The TV was mounted flat against the wall, so I couldn’t plug in my Nintendo Switch. I’ve said it before—hotels, please get swing-out TV mounts! Especially in large rooms like this. On top of that, the TV guide was useless, and it took forever to find the NHL playoff games we wanted to watch.

Pool & Fitness Center

The pool was a decent size with good seating around it. We didn’t swim since it was late, but we did check it out for video content. The fitness center next door looked solid too, with a good mix of cardio and weights.

Food & Local Eats

There’s nothing walkable nearby—this hotel is surrounded by industrial buildings, so you’ll definitely need a car. Luckily, my mom found a local gem: Zander’s Fire Grill & Brew Lounge. Their homemade burger patties were awesome, and the food was so good we forgot to take pictures.

After dinner, we stopped at Dairee Delite, a Brantford classic. This retro-style ice cream shop has been around for over 60 years, and their soft serve is definitely worth the visit.

Breakfast Breakdown

Breakfast was included, and honestly? It delivered. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, toast, and a waffle station with toppings. The staff kept things well-stocked.

Teen downside? Breakfast ends at 9 a.m. on weekdays, which means no sleeping in if you want to eat. Set that alarm.

Final Verdict: Not Teen Travelz Approved

As much as I wanted to like this hotel, I just can’t recommend it.

  • Wi-Fi was difficult to connect to (even though fast once it worked).
  • I couldn’t hook up my Nintendo Switch.
  • The hallway carpet was a mess.
  • Hot water took way too long.
  • No breakfast if you want to sleep in.

There were a few bright spots—like the good Wi-Fi speeds and solid breakfast—but overall, this stay just didn’t hit the mark. I’ve stayed at other TownePlace Suites that did a much better job. Hopefully, this one makes some upgrades.
