Hotel Review: SpringHill Suites Lumberton – Bright Renovated Rooms, Easy I-95 Stop & Trundle-Sofa Win

If you’re road tripping along I-95, the SpringHill Suites Lumberton in North Carolina is a smart stop for a clean, comfortable, and family-friendly overnight stay. We picked it as a one-night stop during our Summer 2025 road trip, and it delivered on all the essentials—renovated rooms, solid Wi-Fi, easy highway access, and even a pizza place across the lot.

First Impressions & Check-In

We arrived just after 6:00 p.m. from Alexandria, Virginia, and loved how easy it was to find—literally right off the interstate. The lobby was bright and open, with plenty of seating since it doubles as the breakfast area. And while I can’t show you this in a video, the hotel scent was amazing the second you walked in.

Check-in was smooth and quick, and we beat both the evening rain and the rush of families arriving after us. Bonus: tons of luggage carts still available. That never happens!

The Room: Spacious, Bright & Smart Design

We booked a Studio, 2 Queen, Sofa bed, and you could tell right away the hotel had been recently renovated. The room was super clean, airy, and honestly one of the brightest SpringHill Suites rooms I’ve stayed in.

Highlights:

  • Mini fridge + microwave for road-trip essentials
  • Large closet to stash luggage out of the way
  • Ottoman with tray for extra surface space
  • Modern stand-up shower in the bathroom
  • Trundle sofa bed → perfect for families since two people can sleep on it (one on top, one on the pull-out mattress)

Overall, the room layout felt fresh and more functional compared to older SpringHill designs.

Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup

Wi-Fi connected easily across all my devices—laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch. Speeds clocked in at 27.9 Mbps download / 43.1 Mbps upload on Ookla Speedtest. Not leaderboard-topping, but definitely strong enough for gaming and streaming.

The 42-inch TV sat on a dresser (not wall-mounted), which made connecting my Switch easy—once my dad helped me pull it out to reach the outlet. After that, setup was quick. Outlets were decent throughout the room, but I still recommend traveling with a power strip for the desk area.

Pool Vibes, Gym & Outdoor Spaces

  • Pool: small, limited seating, but it didn’t stop families with kids from enjoying it. The area stayed busy all night.
  • Gym: compact but functional with 4 cardio machines, free weights, and a bench.
  • Outdoor patios: one at the front with couches + fire table, and another at the back with tables and chairs. Great spots to chill without leaving the property.

Food Nearby

Staff recommended Smithfield’s Chicken ’N Bar-B-Q and Your Pie Pizza. We went with Your Pie—a 2-minute walk across the parking lot—and it was a great choice. I had a BBQ chicken pizza combo with gelato (yes, always gelato). My mom and sister ordered pizzas, and my dad had a pasta bowl he said was super filling. Easy and delicious.

Breakfast is included at SpringHill. We went down right when it opened to get back on the road—but so did everyone else, so it was busy. The breakfast team did a great job restocking, but the hot items were a letdown. The quiches and sandwiches were served still in their plastic wrappers while sitting in the warming trays, which didn’t look very appetizing. Other options included a single waffle maker, an oatmeal station, and limited bread choices (just bagels and English muffins). In the end, we decided to save our appetite—because Buc-ee’s was only 40 minutes away, and that’s always the better breakfast move.

Things to Do in Lumberton

Since this was just a road trip stop, we didn’t explore much. Honestly, I couldn’t find a lot of standout attractions nearby. The strength of this hotel is all about convenience—easy highway access, walkable food, and a comfortable place to recharge before continuing the drive.

Final Verdict: This Teen Travelz Approved ✅

The SpringHill Suites Lumberton is a perfect I-95 stopover—clean, renovated, and road-trip ready. Highlights included:

  • Bright, spacious rooms with smart layouts (trundle sofa = family win)
  • Solid Wi-Fi and smooth Nintendo Switch hookup
  • Walkable dining right across the lot
  • Two outdoor patios for relaxing

Breakfast was underwhelming, but Buc-ee’s nearby more than made up for it. If you’re driving through North Carolina and need a reliable place to crash, this hotel is definitely This Teen Travelz Approved.

Shoutout to the friendly staff at check-in for making arrival easy—and for pointing us toward some local dining options.
