From D.C.-area stays to airport stopovers and college-town suites, this page brings together my Virginia hotel reviews from a teen perspective. I focus on the things that matter most when you’re actually staying at the hotel: Wi-Fi speed, Nintendo Switch setup, pool vibes, breakfast, room comfort, location, and whether I’d stay again.
These reviews are based on real hotel stays with my family, and I’ll keep updating this Virginia roundup as I add more hotels across the state.

How I Review Virginia Hotels
Every hotel on this page is reviewed through a teen-travel lens. That means I’m not just looking at the lobby or the room photos. I’m checking how the hotel actually works for families, road trips, weekend stays, airport nights, college visits, and sightseeing days.
For each stay, I look at:
- Wi-Fi speed and reliability
- Nintendo Switch or gaming console setup
- Pool, gym, and hangout spaces
- Breakfast or nearby food options
- Room comfort, outlets, lighting, and layout
- Location and nearby things to do
- Whether the hotel feels worth staying at again
That’s what makes these Virginia hotel reviews different from a regular hotel listing.
Virginia Hotel Reviews From a Teen Perspective
TownePlace Suites by Marriott Alexandria Fort Belvoir
This was a clean and practical studio-style stay with a full-size fridge, easy Nintendo Switch hookup, strong Wi-Fi, and a solid breakfast. The outdoor patio was a nice bonus, especially for a longer stay or road trip stop.
The pool room was too humid during my visit, but the location was a major win. It works well if you’re visiting the National Museum of the U.S. Army, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, or the Fort Belvoir area.

Residence Inn Blacksburg-University
This hotel was a great base for visiting Virginia Tech. The location had walkable food options, the room had a useful swivel TV, and the indoor pool was a bigger surprise than expected.
The Nintendo Switch setup was easy, but the sofa bed was not great. If you’re staying with family, I’d recommend booking two real beds if possible.
This is one of the better Virginia hotel options if your trip is focused on Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, or a college visit.

Fairfield Inn & Suites at Dulles Airport
This Dulles Airport-area stay had quiet rooms, excellent Wi-Fi, an easy gaming setup, and early breakfast hours that actually make sense for travelers catching flights.
There is no pool anymore, but the gym was strong, and the location is very convenient for the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where you can see Space Shuttle Discovery.
For families looking for a practical hotel near Dulles Airport, this one made a lot of sense.

Courtyard Alexandria Old Town/Southwest
This hotel had older rooms and a small TV, but the Wi-Fi was reliable and the Nintendo Switch setup was simple.
The biggest reason to stay here is the location. It is about a 5-minute walk to the Eisenhower Avenue Metro station, which makes it easy to get into Washington, D.C. without needing to drive.
This is a better choice for sightseeing than for a relaxing hotel getaway, but it can work well if your main goal is visiting D.C. attractions.
