Hotel Review: Four Points by Sheraton Point Edward Sarnia – A Road Trip Stop with Surprises
Looking for a solid overnight stop before heading into Michigan? Let me give you the teen lowdown on the Four Points by Sheraton Point Edward Sarnia. Located in Sarnia, Ontario, this newly renovated hotel turned out to be a pretty decent road trip pit stop—even if the Wi-Fi didn’t exactly deliver.
First Impressions & Check-In
We rolled into the hotel around 8 p.m. after a long drive. Otto at the front desk was super welcoming and even gave us the option of a main floor room or one on the second floor (closer to the gym and pool). Since the nearby elevator was out of order, we went with the first floor. Shoutout to Otto for offering us the choice—small detail, big impact.
The lobby was surprisingly spacious with a ton of seating—way more than I usually see in hotels of this size. It smelled nice, although to be totally honest, it kind of reminded me of my grandpa’s aftershave. Make of that what you will.
Luggage carts were easy to find right by the entrance, which made unpacking fast and painless.
The Room
We were upgraded to a Deluxe 2 Queen Guest Room. It had a cool mix of hardwood and carpeted flooring, and there was enough space for all four of us. The room included a pull-out couch, a stand-up shower with solid water pressure, and a partial view of the Blue Water Bridge—even though we were on the ground floor overlooking the parking lot.
Now for the cons:
- The A/C unit was loud.
- The room was too dark, even with multiple lamps.
- It felt really dry in the morning.
- And as always—not enough outlets.
🛠️ Teen Tip: Bring a power strip (or two). Trust me, your devices will thank you.
Also, bonus points to my parents for always packing a portable humidifier. We didn’t use it this time since it was just a one-night stay, but it would’ve helped with the dry air.
Wi-Fi & Gaming
Now let’s talk Wi-Fi. Or… lack of it.
Connecting my laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch was easy. But the actual internet speed? Brutal. I ended up using my phone’s hotspot because it was 15x faster than the hotel Wi-Fi. Yup—15 times.
This hotel currently ranks last on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard. If you care about fast downloads or online gaming, be warned.
But here’s some good news:
🎮 The gaming console setup was a breeze. There was an HDMI port right under the TV and a power outlet nearby. One of the fastest setups I’ve done yet!
Pool & Fitness Vibes
One of the best surprises at this hotel? The pool. It was big, warm, and had plenty of seating. I filmed it at night and was planning to go back in the morning—but it was closed for maintenance.
The gym was right next to the pool, and it was pretty solid for a hotel this size. Not a crazy view, but it faced the front of the hotel, which at least gave you something to look at while working out.
Food: Dinner & Breakfast
This Four Points has a Boston Pizza inside—kind of unusual, especially because we had breakfast there too. Boston Pizza isn’t normally a breakfast spot, but this one made it work.
For dinner, I ordered “Bugs and Cheese” (Alfredo bug-shaped pasta with mozzarella). It was decent. My parents were too tired to drive to our usual go-to, Bad Dog Bar & Grill, so we stayed put. It was getting late anyway.
My parents had breakfast at Boston Pizza the next morning while my sister and I slept in. They had the casual breakfast and buttermilk pancakes and said it was pretty good.
Things to Do Nearby
Not much you can walk to from this hotel. It’s definitely a stopover kind of place—or the kind of hotel sports teams stay in during tournaments. But if you’ve got a car, there are some cool things to do within a 5-10 minute drive. For those, check out my blog at ThisTeenTravelz.com or watch my review of the nearby Insignia Hotel.
Teen Travel Tips:
🛜 Wi-Fi warriors: Bring a hotspot. You’ll need it.
🌬️ Dry sleepers: Pack a small humidifier if you’re staying more than one night.
🎮 Console gamers: You’re in luck—setup is super easy here.
The Verdict: Great Stop for Gamers (But Bring a Hotspot)
So what’s the final word? This hotel is a pretty solid option if you’re on a road trip and need a clean, comfy place to crash for a night. The pool was a nice surprise, and staff were super friendly. Just don’t count on the Wi-Fi for anything serious.
Would I stay again? Sure—especially if I was just stopping for the night or passing through with a team. But if you’re planning to stream, game, or do schoolwork, definitely bring your own data backup.
Another trip, another review. Stay chill, stay connected (if you can), and don’t forget your power strip!
