  • AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark Review: My First AC Hotel Stay Set the Bar High

This AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark review covers my first stay at an AC Hotel — and between the rooftop views, balcony room, SouthPark location, and one of the most thoughtful Nintendo Switch setups I’ve had, this hotel made a strong first impression.

My family and I stayed here for one night during our Epic Summer 2025 Road Trip, where we travelled for 19 days and stayed at 14 different hotels.

This was also my first time staying at the AC Hotels brand, so I really did not know what to expect.

Before this stay, I had already stayed at two other Marriott hotels in Charlotte’s SouthPark area: the Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel and the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark. That meant the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark had some direct competition.

Would it become my new favourite Marriott hotel in SouthPark?

AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark Review: Arrival & First Impressions

Pulling up to the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark and unloading our car was easy.

Right inside the entrance, the hotel had both full-size luggage carts and smaller compact carts. I know that sounds like a small detail, but when you are travelling as a family and moving bags in and out for a one-night stay, having both options actually helps.

Courtney and Lizzy greeted us when we arrived and helped us through check-in. The process was quick and easy, and both of them were very friendly and helpful. They answered several of my family’s questions and also gave us recommendations for dinner in the area.

That made the arrival feel personal right away.

The hotel made a strong first impression. The lobby felt open, clean, and modern, with different seating areas spread throughout the space. It had a stylish and relaxed atmosphere without feeling too formal.

This was one of the first things I noticed about the AC brand. The hotel did not feel like a huge full-service Marriott, but it also did not feel basic. It had a modern design that felt simple, clean, and comfortable.

Lobby, Market & AC Lounge

Just around the corner from the front desk was the hotel market, which had snacks, drinks, and other items available for guests.

The main lobby also opened into the AC Lounge. In the morning, this area becomes the seating space for the AC Kitchen breakfast. In the evening, the lounge is only opened when Cordial, the hotel’s rooftop bar, reaches capacity.

That setup gave the lobby more than one purpose. Instead of feeling like a lobby you only pass through, the space felt like part of the hotel experience.

Another convenient feature was the hotel’s connection to the parking garage. Since our room was on the second floor, we could access the garage directly from that level instead of always having to return through the main lobby.

For a short family stay, that was really useful. It made it much easier to bring things back and forth from the car.

Overall, the arrival experience was smooth, the hotel immediately felt modern and well maintained, and the staff gave us a very welcoming introduction to our first AC Hotel stay.

Room Tour: AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark Review of the Deluxe Two Queen Balcony Room

We originally booked a guest room with two queen beds, but we were upgraded to a deluxe room with two queen beds and a balcony.

For the room section of this AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark review, the upgrade made a big difference.

The room continued the same modern style as the rest of the hotel. It was clean, bright, and easy for our family to settle into, especially since we were only staying for one night.

The main part of the room included two queen beds, an armchair, a decent-sized desk, and a large television. The layout was fairly simple, but it used the space well and did not feel overcrowded.

A Practical Room Layout

One of my mom’s favourite features was the long luggage bench.

It gave us plenty of room to place our suitcases while still leaving storage space underneath for shoes, bags, and other items. That helped keep everything organized and out of the main walking areas.

For a family that prefers living out of suitcases instead of unpacking everything for a short stay, this setup worked really well.

Sometimes a hotel room does not need to be huge to work well. It just needs to be organized in a way that makes sense.

That is what this room did.

Balcony Setup

The balcony was another major highlight.

It overlooked the street and had a comfortable loveseat, along with a small table and chairs. It gave us an extra place to sit, relax, and take in the surrounding SouthPark area.

I always like when a hotel room gives you more than just the bed area. The balcony made the room feel more open and gave the stay something different from a standard two queen room.

For a one-night stay, it was a really nice upgrade.

Bathroom & Shower

The bathroom was modern and in great condition.

It had a stand-up shower with a rainfall showerhead, but the feature that stood out most was the adjustable water pressure.

After staying at so many hotels, this was the first shower I remember using where I could choose whether I wanted the water pressure to feel stronger or weaker. The water temperature was excellent too, so the overall shower experience was one of the better ones I’ve had during a hotel stay.

That is not something I expected to become a highlight, but it definitely stood out.

Thoughtful Extras Near the Elevators

There were also a few thoughtful extras outside the room.

In the evening, lavender sachets were placed near the elevators for guests to take back to their rooms and put under their pillows. In the morning, shower steamers were available in the same area.

Those details made the hotel feel more intentional. They were small touches, but they fit the calm, modern AC Hotel atmosphere.

The hallway also had one of the most interesting ice machines I’ve seen at a hotel. It dispensed filtered water and gave guests three options: water only, ice only, or both at the same time.

I know an ice machine is not usually a big hotel feature, but this one was actually memorable because it was different from the usual setup.

Overall, the room was not overly complicated, but it was modern, comfortable, organized, and practical for my family. The balcony and luggage bench made the biggest difference, while the bathroom included a feature I had never come across during any of my previous hotel stays.

Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup

For this AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark review, I also tested the Wi-Fi and gaming setup from the room.

Connecting to the hotel Wi-Fi was easy across all of my devices, including my laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch.

I used the hotel’s enhanced Wi-Fi and tested the connection with Ookla Speedtest. I recorded 43.2 Mbps download and 45.6 Mbps upload.

At the time of this review, that placed the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark at number 30 on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard. You can find the complete and updated rankings on ThisTeenTravelz.com.

The speeds were decent and worked well enough for everything I needed during our one-night stay. They were not among the fastest results I have tested, but I had no problem connecting my devices or using the Wi-Fi normally.

Nintendo Switch Setup

The gaming setup was the bigger story.

Before we arrived, I had let the hotel know that I would be bringing my Nintendo Switch. Brandon Clarke, the hotel’s Assistant General Manager, and Brenden had also watched some of my videos, which gave them the idea to prepare the room and make the setup as easy as possible for me.

They provided an HDMI cable that was already connected to the television, along with a power strip and a long extension cord.

That meant I did not have to struggle to reach an outlet behind the furniture or figure out how to access the television’s HDMI ports.

The extra power strip also gave me plenty of places to charge my phone, tablet, and other devices at the same time.

They even left me an instruction sheet that started with:

“We heard that you’re a gamer!”

It explained how to connect my Nintendo Switch and helped make sure I did not run into any problems.

Because everything had already been prepared, connecting the Switch was quick and easy. I could plug it in, change the television input, and start playing without having to move furniture or call the front desk for help.

I test gaming setups at every hotel I review, and this was one of the most thoughtful setups I’ve experienced.

It was not because the room had a special gaming television or built-in console. It stood out because the staff had watched my videos, understood what I normally test, and made an effort to remove the usual problems before I even arrived.

That personal attention made a big difference and helped make my first AC Hotel stay feel even more welcoming.

Pool Vibes & Fitness Centre

The AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark does not have an onsite pool, but that does not mean guests have to go without one.

Guests can visit the front desk and ask for a pass to use the outdoor pool at the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark. The Marriott is literally next door, so getting there only requires a quick walk across the parking lot.

You do still have to leave the AC Hotel and bring everything you need with you, but the pool is much closer and easier to access than the phrase “sister property” might make it sound.

Pool Access at Charlotte Marriott SouthPark

I had already stayed at and reviewed the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark before. During that visit, the outdoor pool had not opened for the season, so I did not get a chance to properly experience it.

That made me especially excited to finally try the pool during this stay.

The pool was a decent size and had plenty of space for swimming and relaxing. There were also several seating options around the deck, including loungers, tables, chairs, and umbrellas.

I was not able to film all of the seating because other guests were using the area, but from what I could see, there were enough options for families and other visitors to spread out around the pool.

The setup worked well for us, and having access to the Marriott’s pool helped make up for the fact that the AC Hotel does not have one of its own.

The lack of an onsite pool could still be a drawback for some guests, since you need to ask for a pass and walk across the parking lot. But because the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark is right next door, the process was very easy during our stay.

Fitness Centre

Back at the AC Hotel, the fitness centre is labelled as the Exercise Room.

It was bright, clean, and spacious, with plenty of room to move around without the equipment feeling packed together.

The gym included a Peloton bike, three treadmills, two ellipticals, yoga equipment, kettlebells, a full rack of weights, two weight benches, and a multigym machine.

There were also three televisions positioned around the room, which gave guests different viewing options while working out.

Overall, the hotel’s fitness centre was well equipped, clean, and comfortable to use. The pool situation required one extra step, but having the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark right next door made it a very practical option.

In my case, it also finally gave me the chance to experience the pool I had missed during my previous stay in SouthPark.

Food at AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark

Food is another section where this AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark review had more to cover than I expected.

The hotel gives guests a few different options depending on the time of day, but the biggest standout is definitely Cordial, the rooftop bar and lounge.

AC Kitchen Breakfast

In the morning, guests can have breakfast at the AC Kitchen, which uses the same seating area as the AC Lounge.

The hotel serves a European-inspired breakfast with options such as cheeses, freshly baked croissants, cured meats, and savoury breakfast tarts.

We did not eat breakfast at the hotel during this stay, so I cannot review the food itself. But the setup fit the AC brand’s modern style and gave guests a convenient option without having to leave the property.

Cordial Rooftop Bar

The hotel’s biggest food and drink feature is Cordial, its eighth-floor rooftop bar and lounge.

Brenden, the Food and Beverage Manager, brought us upstairs and gave us the chance to see the space. Samuel looked after us at Cordial, and the rooftop became one of the biggest highlights of our stay.

Cordial is divided into three main areas: an indoor lounge, a balcony, and an outdoor terrace.

The indoor section had a stylish and comfortable atmosphere, while the outdoor spaces offered amazing views across SouthPark and toward downtown Charlotte.

Even if you are not planning to order dinner or stay for drinks, I would still recommend going upstairs to see the view, especially around sunset. It gives you a completely different perspective of the surrounding area and makes the hotel feel more connected to the city.

Cordial serves creative cocktails and tapas-style small plates. Depending on when you visit, the rooftop may also host live music, which would make the atmosphere even better.

The AC Lounge on the main floor is only opened in the evening when Cordial reaches capacity. That gives the hotel an overflow space while keeping Cordial as the main evening destination.

For us, Cordial was easily one of the features that made this hotel feel different from the other SouthPark Marriott properties I have stayed at.

Food Near AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark

Another major advantage of staying here is the number of restaurants within walking distance.

SouthPark Mall and the surrounding area have plenty of casual restaurants, sit-down dining options, and fast food choices.

Two places my family has enjoyed during previous visits are Maggiano’s Little Italy and The Cheesecake Factory. Both are close to the hotel and make convenient options if you want something familiar.

On this trip, however, we found a new family favourite: Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse.

Duckworth’s is locally owned and operated and had been serving the area for around 20 years when we visited. It was about a 20-minute walk from the hotel, but we thought it was well worth it.

I ordered a build-your-own burger with sweet potato fries. Siena and my dad both ordered Philly steak sandwiches, although Siena chose sweet potato fries while my dad had a side salad. My mom ordered the grouper tacos with chips and salsa.

Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the menu had enough variety that each person in our family could find something different.

It had a casual atmosphere, generous portions, and ended up being one of the most memorable meals from this part of our road trip.

Overall, the hotel gives guests two very different food experiences. You can stay onsite and enjoy the views and atmosphere at Cordial, or walk into the surrounding SouthPark area and choose from a large selection of restaurants.

For us, Cordial was the standout hotel feature, while Duckworth’s became the standout meal.

Things to Do Near AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark

One of the biggest advantages of staying at the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark is the location.

The hotel is not in downtown Charlotte, but it is in one of the city’s major shopping and dining areas. That made it feel well connected, especially for a one-night family stay.

SouthPark Mall

The most obvious nearby attraction is SouthPark Mall, which is only about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

SouthPark Mall is one of Charlotte’s major shopping destinations, with a large mix of luxury stores, familiar brands, restaurants, and other places to spend time.

For teens who enjoy shopping or simply walking around the mall, the hotel’s location is especially convenient because you do not need to drive there.

That is one of the reasons I think this hotel works well for teens. You can leave the hotel and actually have somewhere nearby to go.

AC Bike Program

The hotel also has complimentary bicycles available through the AC Bike Program.

Guests can stop by the front desk, ask about availability, and borrow a bike to explore SouthPark.

I like that this gives guests another way to experience the surrounding area. It fits the hotel’s style because it feels simple, practical, and connected to the neighbourhood.

Nearby Charlotte Attractions

There are also several major Charlotte attractions within driving distance.

Carowinds is a large amusement park located near the North Carolina and South Carolina border. It is one of the places still on my Charlotte wishlist and would be a strong option for families or teens looking for roller coasters and a full day out.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame is another attraction I would like to visit. It is located closer to downtown Charlotte and focuses on the history of NASCAR, its drivers, cars, and major moments.

The Sullenberger Aviation Museum is also on my list for a future trip. It includes aircraft and exhibits connected to aviation history, including the famous US Airways plane involved in the Miracle on the Hudson.

All three attractions are roughly a 20-minute drive from the hotel, depending on traffic.

That means the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark works best for guests who want to stay in a quieter shopping and dining district while still being within reach of downtown Charlotte and some of the city’s best-known attractions.

Final Verdict – AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark Review

After staying at three different Marriott hotels in Charlotte’s SouthPark area — the Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel, the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark, and now the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark — this one ended up being my favourite.

I think this hotel is best for couples, families, business travellers, and especially teens who want a modern hotel within walking distance of SouthPark Mall, restaurants, and other places to hang out.

Standout Strength

The standout strength was the overall combination of location, design, and service.

The hotel felt clean and modern, the balcony room worked really well for our family, Cordial gave us amazing views of SouthPark and downtown Charlotte, and the staff made our first AC Hotel stay feel personal.

The gaming setup was probably the best example of that.

Brandon and Brenden had watched some of my videos and used what they learned to make connecting my Nintendo Switch as easy as possible. Having the HDMI cable, extension cord, power strip, and instructions already prepared was a small detail that made a big impression.

What to Know

The main thing to know before booking is that the AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark does not have its own onsite pool.

Normally, that could be a bigger drawback for a family stay, but in this case, guests can ask the front desk for a pass to use the outdoor pool at the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark right next door.

You still have to leave the AC Hotel and walk across the parking lot, but because the Marriott is so close, the process was easy during our stay. For us, it worked well and gave me the chance to finally experience the pool I missed during my previous Charlotte Marriott SouthPark review.

So while the AC Hotel does not have its own pool, having easy access to one next door helped balance that out.

For our stay, the pool access worked well, and the rest of the hotel experience made an even stronger impression.

This Teen Travelz Approved

The AC Hotel Charlotte SouthPark is This Teen Travelz Approved.

It is especially Teen Approved for anyone who likes shopping, dining, rooftop views, modern hotel design, and being able to walk to SouthPark Mall without needing to get back in the car.

For my first experience with the AC Hotels brand, this property set the bar high.

Out of the three SouthPark Marriott hotels I have stayed at, this is the one I would choose again.

Staff Shoutout

Before I finish, I want to recognize the staff who helped make this such a great first experience with the AC Hotels brand.

Courtney and Lizzy gave us a warm welcome at check-in, answered my family’s questions, and helped us with dinner recommendations.

Chyna and Asia were also very helpful at the front desk the next morning.

Samuel took great care of us at Cordial, and Brenden helped bring us upstairs and made sure we had a chance to experience the rooftop space.

I also want to give a special thank-you to Brandon Clarke and Brenden for watching some of my videos before our stay. They used what they learned to make my Nintendo Switch setup as easy as possible by preparing the HDMI cable, extension cord, power strip, and instructions in advance.

That kind of attention made the stay feel personal and showed that the team genuinely cared about the experience they were creating for us.

To Courtney, Lizzy, Chyna, Asia, Samuel, Brandon, Brenden, and anyone else I may have missed — thank you for making my family feel welcome and for making my first AC Hotel stay such a memorable one.
