Hotel Review: Fairfield Inn & Suites Slippery Rock – Uno Battles, Outlet Hauls & Surprise Wi-Fi Wins
If you’re heading back from a long road trip and need a solid stopover, this hotel might be your answer. We booked a one-night stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, on our way home from Spring Break, mainly because of how close it is to Grove City Premium Outlets. Turns out, this Fairfield was exactly what we needed to recharge (literally and figuratively).
First Impressions
We arrived in the evening after a full day of driving from Charlotte, North Carolina. Right away, the front desk staff was super friendly, check-in was quick, and they had plenty of luggage carts ready to roll. The lobby was bright and welcoming, with some chill seating areas. Just past the front desk is the breakfast lounge—which turns into the ultimate Uno battleground for me and my sister. That night, a few families were hanging out there, eating takeout and relaxing, so the vibe felt really homey.
Our Room: Standard but Solid
We stayed in a regular Double Queen room. Nothing fancy here, but it was clean and looked well taken care of. If you’ve stayed at a Fairfield before, you pretty much know what you’re getting—which can actually be a good thing on a road trip. Consistency means no surprises, and everything worked the way it should.
Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup
Even though it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, the Wi-Fi was surprisingly solid. I connected my phone, iPad, laptop, and Switch without a problem. Streaming and gaming were lag-free the whole night.
The TV was a bit older and smaller, but honestly, that made it easier to hook up my Nintendo Switch. No drama, no extra remotes, just plug-and-play. Also, bring a power strip if you can—outlets go fast when the whole family needs to recharge their devices after a day on the road.
Pool & Patio Vibes
We didn’t swim this time, but we checked out the pool area. It was a good size, had a hot tub, and offered a decent amount of seating. Right outside, we also spotted a really nice patio setup with lounge chairs—perfect for warmer months.
We didn’t get to hit the gym, but it looked pretty decent for a hotel this size.
Free Breakfast = Big Win
Breakfast in the morning was better than expected. For a Fairfield, this one delivered—hot and cold options, things were restocked often, and it kept us full until our shopping trip. Honestly, it rivaled a few full-service Marriotts I’ve been to.
As for other food, you’ll need a car. Nothing walkable, but we drove to Taco Bell that night (it hit the spot), and the next day we grabbed lunch at Primanti Bros. after shopping. If you’ve never been, they stuff fries and slaw inside their sandwiches—iconic Pittsburgh stuff. Their pizza is pretty good too.
Things to Do Nearby
Not a ton to do within walking distance, but the Grove City Premium Outlets are just a 15-20 minute drive away. That’s why we picked this spot. Plus, Pennsylvania has no sales tax on clothes… which is perfect because I’m a growing teen and somehow go through clothes faster than my Switch drains battery. 😅
Final Verdict: Great Road Trip Stop
The Fairfield Inn & Suites Slippery Rock was a great stop on our drive home. Clean room, friendly staff, reliable Wi-Fi, and a free breakfast that actually delivered. While you do need to drive for food, that was no big deal for us.
This place was the perfect way to start winding down our Spring Break trip. And for the record, my shopping haul was so good my mom had to pull a full-on Tetris move to get everything packed into our car. 😂
