Westin Book Cadillac Detroit Review: Where History and Hospitality Meet
We stayed at The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit during our Easter weekend road trip. This iconic hotel in downtown Detroit just hit its 100th anniversary, and I have to say—this was one of the most memorable city stays I’ve had. Between the upgraded views, awesome lounge access, and a surprise in the bathroom (yep, you read that right), this hotel definitely stood out.
First Impressions
We pulled up to the hotel around 2:30 p.m., and even though check-in isn’t until 4, our room was already ready—score! I remember saying, “What a beautiful building,” before realizing it was our hotel. Valet staff were super friendly, and right inside the doors we spotted a Starbucks and Sullivan’s Steakhouse. A staff member guided us up to the second floor where check-in happens.
Upstairs, there’s a modern bar and lounge area to the right of the front desk. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff were super helpful, especially with this being our first time staying downtown in Detroit. Right away, this felt like the kind of downtown Detroit hotel review I knew would have a lot to cover.
Our Room at The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit: Views for Days
We originally booked a 2 Queen room but got upgraded to a Club Level 2 Queen Room on the 22nd floor—thanks to my dad’s Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status. I think this was the highest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in!
The room was spacious, clean, and had two queen beds, a swivel armchair, a chaise lounge, and a big table—perfect for drawing or scrolling on my iPad. There were HUGE windows with incredible views of the city, the Ambassador Bridge, the new Gordie Howe Bridge, and even Canada. Easily one of the best views I’ve had in any hotel room.
Also… plenty of outlets! My power strip got a break for once. 😄
Now, about that bathroom. It had a tub (suites have stand-up showers), but the real standout? A window right beside the toilet. I could literally see Canada from the toilet seat. That’s a first—and definitely a funny story I’ll remember from this trip.
For anyone researching The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit rooms, the Club Level 2 Queen Room gave us plenty of space, strong views, and a comfortable setup for a short city stay.
Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup
The Wi-Fi was easy to connect to on all my devices—Switch, iPad, laptop, phone—and it was fast enough to stream and game with no issues. Want to see how it ranks? Check my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard. Connecting my Nintendo Switch to the TV was also super simple. I also loved that the room had USB and USB-C ports—clutch, especially since all my controllers were dead from the previous night’s gaming session.
Pool & Fitness Center
We didn’t swim this time, but the indoor pool was warm and a decent size. It even had a hot tub and lots of seating. The gym next door was fully equipped and perfect for teens who like to work out.
Westin Club Lounge at The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit
Since we were upgraded to Club Level, we had access to the Westin Club Lounge on the top floor—and it did not disappoint. Huge shoutout to Rochelle, the Concierge Attendant, who was super helpful and kind.
That evening’s food selection was one of the best I’ve seen in a Marriott lounge—I ate so much I skipped dinner. The breakfast the next morning was just as good, and the lounge views were possibly even better than our room’s!
Local Food Adventures
After checking in, we went straight across the street to try a Detroit must-do: Coney dogs. We picked Lafayette Coney Island, and it was amazing. The chili cheese fries and mustard-chili combo hit the spot, and the old-school diner vibes added to the experience.
I was so full from the lounge and Coney dogs that I skipped dinner—but here are a few nearby places recommended by hotel staff:
- Parc
- Union Assembly
- Buddy’s Pizza
- Fishbones
- Restaurants in Greektown (lots of options!)
My parents took a walk around downtown that night and picked up dessert from two amazing spots:
- The Peach Cobbler Factory (my dad got a Nutella PUDD-N Shake 😋)
- Astoria Pastry Shop in Greektown (I had the custard éclair, and my sister had the double chocolate torte)
