Top Picks from My Michigan Hotel Reviews

Looking for the best Michigan hotel reviews without scrolling through everything? Here are my current top picks based on real stays across the state.

These picks include design-forward hotels, downtown Detroit icons, lakeshore surprises, campus visits, history-filled stays, and shopping-trip bases.

These picks will continue to evolve as I visit more Michigan hotels and update my rankings.

🥇 Best Overall Michigan Stay

The Vanguard Ann Arbor, Autograph Collection – Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Vanguard is my top overall Michigan pick right now, with The Dearborn Inn and The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit close behind. This hotel stood out because it felt different from the second I walked in — bold design, a custom scent, creative room details, strong Wi-Fi, easy gaming setup, and a location that made Ann Arbor really fun to explore. It felt polished, memorable, and genuinely teen-friendly without trying too hard.

🎮 Best for Gaming

Hyatt House Lansing / University Area – Lansing, Michigan

Hyatt House Lansing was one of the best gaming stays I’ve had in Michigan. The Wi-Fi ranked near the top of my leaderboard, console setup was plug-and-play, and the suite gave us tons of space to spread out. Add in the full kitchen, strong breakfast, indoor pool, and fitness center, and this became way more than just a campus-area hotel.

🏙️ Best Downtown Detroit Stay

The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit – Detroit, Michigan

This hotel brings together history, location, views, lounge access, a pool, strong Wi-Fi, and a true downtown Detroit feel. It worked well for exploring the city, relaxing in the room, and getting a classic Detroit hotel experience from a teen perspective.

🏛️ Best Hotel for History Buffs

The Dearborn Inn, Autograph Collection – Dearborn, Michigan

The Dearborn Inn is easily the best Michigan hotel I’ve reviewed for history lovers. It is known as the world’s first airport hotel, has deep ties to Henry Ford, and sits close to The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Add in the Walt Disney connection, historic design details, and fresh renovation, and this stay felt like a hotel review and a history lesson at the same time.

🎨 Best Hotel for Art Lovers

The Henry, Autograph Collection – Dearborn, Michigan

The Henry feels like staying inside an art gallery. There is artwork everywhere, from paintings to pop culture pieces, and the whole hotel has a creative personality that makes it stand out from a typical suburban stay. Between the art, strong service, easy gaming setup, pool, hot tub, and location near The Henry Ford Museum, this is one of the most unique Michigan hotels I’ve reviewed.

🚶 Best Walkable Hotel

The Vanguard Ann Arbor, Autograph Collection – Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Vanguard also deserves a second shoutout for walkability. I loved being able to step outside and explore Ann Arbor’s neighborhoods, museums, restaurants, and university area without needing to drive everywhere. For a hotel stay where the area around the property is part of the experience, this one really works.

🌊 Best Lakeshore Surprise

Delta Hotels Muskegon Convention Center – Muskegon, Michigan

This stay surprised me in the best way. The glass-wrapped indoor pool, Lake Muskegon views, walkable food spots, friendly staff, and easy gaming setup made Muskegon feel like way more than just a stopover.

🛍️ Best for Shopping Trips

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Chesterfield – Chesterfield, Michigan

TownePlace Suites Chesterfield is my top Michigan pick for shopping trips. I like this hotel even more than TownePlace Suites Detroit Auburn Hills because it feels more comfortable, reliable, and complete overall. The rooms are spotless and spacious, the full kitchen setup is perfect for longer stays, and the pool and gym are better than expected for a TownePlace Suites. With nearby food, shopping, big-box stores, and family fun spots, it is a really strong base for cross-border shopping weekends and Detroit-area trips.

Michigan Hotels – Teen Hotel Reviews

Below are my Michigan hotel reviews so far, including Marriott, Autograph Collection, Westin, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Delta Hotels, Hyatt House, and more. Every review is based on a real stay and looks at the things teens and families actually care about.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Detroit Auburn Hills

Located steps from Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, this TownePlace Suites is built for cross-border shopping weekends and family stays. Our 2 Bedroom Suite upgrade delivered full kitchen flexibility, separate sleeping spaces, and easy Nintendo Switch hookup in the living room. Wi-Fi wasn’t leaderboard-level, and the gym is basic, but the unbeatable location near outlet shopping, Costco, Sam’s Club, Buddy’s Pizza, and Topgolf makes this a strong Michigan home base.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Chesterfield

A longtime family favorite and one of the most convenient bases for cross-border shoppers and Detroit-area explorers. Rooms are spotless and spacious, the full kitchen setup is perfect for longer stays, and the gym and pool punch way above their weight for a TownePlace Suites. Wi-Fi is on the slower side, but console hookup is super easy thanks to the swivel-mounted TV. With tons of nearby food options, malls, big-box stores, and fun spots like C.J. Barrymore’s and Dave & Buster’s, this hotel is a reliable, comfortable, and teen-friendly stop every time.

The Vanguard Ann Arbor, Autograph Collection

A brand-new Autograph Collection hotel in downtown Ann Arbor, The Vanguard impressed me right away with its bold design, custom scent, and location steps from the University of Michigan. From the creative room details (like magnifying glass room numbers and passport-stamp wardrobes) to one of the most stylish bathrooms I’ve seen, this hotel felt like a true statement property. No pool here, but strong Wi-Fi and a swing-out TV mount made gaming easy.

The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit

This 100-year-old Westin is both historic and modern, with epic views from our 22nd-floor Club Level room and one of the best concierge lounges I’ve ever tried. The Wi-Fi was fast, console hookup was smooth, and the bathroom even had a window where I could literally see Canada from the toilet (seriously). Add in great dining nearby, a pool and gym, and friendly staff like Rochelle in the lounge — and this stay was officially Teen Travelz Approved.

The Henry, Autograph Collection

The Henry in Dearborn feels like staying inside an art gallery — with paintings and pop culture touches (including Baby Yoda!) on every floor. The staff treat teens like real guests, Wi-Fi speeds were strong, and Nintendo Switch hookup was easy. Between the art, pool, hot tub, and nearby attractions like The Henry Ford Museum and Buddy’s Pizza, this has become one of my all-time favorite Michigan hotels.

Hyatt House Lansing / University Area

My first Hyatt House stay was also my first hosted hotel, and it blew me away. Our two-queen suite came with a full kitchen and tons of space, the indoor pool glowed with fireflies outside the windows, and the fitness center had battle ropes and a heavy bag. The Wi-Fi ranked #2 on my leaderboard, console setup was plug-and-play, and the breakfast spread included donut holes (major win). Great for families, road trips, and campus visits.

Delta Hotels Muskegon Convention Center

This hotel was a total surprise hit. The glass-wrapped indoor pool with skylights gave off serious resort vibes, while outlets everywhere and a swing-out TV mount made gaming easy. The room was bright and clean with views of Lake Muskegon, and staff like Kerah went above and beyond with a welcome tour and local tips. From walkable food spots to The Deck on Pere Marquette Beach, Muskegon turned into a destination I’d gladly revisit.

Courtyard Detroit Warren

Unfortunately, this stay didn’t land. The property still had the old Courtyard branding, check-in was slow, and our first room wasn’t cleaned properly. Wi-Fi and console hookup worked fine once we got settled, and the central courtyard was a nice hangout spot, but dated rooms, limited outlets, and inconvenient layouts made this one of my least favorite Courtyards. Honest verdict: not Teen Travelz Approved.

Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac

This hotel is a personal favorite because I’ve stayed here since I was little, but I’m keeping it real: some rooms make gaming tricky with wall-mounted TVs, and the breakfast isn’t as strong as it used to be pre-COVID. Still, the Wi-Fi is fast, the pool is clean, the location is convenient for outlet shopping, and Bonvoy lounge gummy bears are always a win. A solid road trip stop that works for families, even if it’s not perfect.

Residence Inn Grand Rapids Downtown

This downtown Residence Inn had one of the best breakfasts I’ve had all year — think scrambled eggs, mini quiches, a waffle station, and cold brew with syrups. The suite felt like a full apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the lobby had serious hangout vibes with fire pits and BBQ grills. Wi-Fi was a letdown and ranks low on my leaderboard, but friendly staff like Tasha and Evan made the stay stand out.

MGM Grand Detroit

A casino hotel might sound exciting, but this one wasn’t teen-friendly. The bathroom was huge and the view of the Ambassador Bridge was great, but the Wi-Fi was the slowest I’ve tested and the TVs had no HDMI ports — meaning no Nintendo Switch gaming. With most restaurants located inside the casino (21+ only), it’s really geared to adults. Solid for one night if you’re here for a concert, but not Teen Travelz Approved.

The Dearborn Inn, Autograph Collection

My 100th different Marriott stay had to be special — and The Dearborn Inn delivered. Fresh off a major renovation, it combined historic design (Henry Ford-picked flooring, a Disney autograph) with modern updates and some of the friendliest staff I’ve ever met. Our 2 Queen Junior Suite had a massive bathroom, the Wi-Fi ranked #2 on my leaderboard, and nearby attractions like The Henry Ford Museum made it unforgettable. I can’t wait to return when the new pool and Colonial Homes open.
