If you’re looking for a Sheraton Hamilton Hotel review to figure out if this downtown Hamilton stay is actually worth it — especially for concerts, events, food, and city vibes — this one might be exactly what you’re looking for.
The Sheraton Hamilton Hotel has been part of the downtown core for decades, and after a recent refresh in late 2024, it’s still one of the most connected hotels in the city.
We stayed here for one night as part of my Hometown Ontario Series to see how it holds up from a teen perspective — and whether it’s actually worth it if you’re figuring out where to stay in Hamilton, Ontario.
Let’s get into it.
Location, Arrival & First Impressions
In this Sheraton Hamilton Hotel review, one of the biggest advantages is the location—and you notice that right away.
It’s right in the heart of downtown Hamilton and directly connected to Jackson Square, which means you can access shopping, food, and more without even stepping outside. That alone makes a big difference, especially if you’re visiting during colder months.
When we arrived at the hotel, my family and I walked up to the reception desk and were greeted by Kamila. Check-in was quick, smooth, and easy.
Kamila was very friendly and helpful, and she made sure we had all the information we needed for our stay. What stood out even more was that she checked in with us throughout our stay to see how things were going and if we needed anything. That kind of service always makes a difference.
The Room Setup
We stayed in a Club Level Guest Room with 2 Queen beds on the 16th floor.
Overall vibe? Clean, bright, and comfortable.
Right away, the room felt updated and easy to settle into. The natural light during the day combined with the warm lighting at night gave it a really nice balance.
The view was also a standout—you’re looking out over TD Coliseum, downtown Hamilton, and even the waterfront, which adds a lot to the overall experience.
There’s also a nice little setup by the window with a swivel chair and table, which ended up being a perfect chill spot during the stay. The desk area had decent space, and there were some thoughtful touches like a full-size mirror with hooks (which my mom loved) and artwork that actually gave the room some personality.
The bathroom was simple but solid, with a tub and shower combo, good space, and everything clean and functional.
For a downtown Hamilton hotel, this room checks all the boxes.
Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup
Wi-Fi was easy to connect to across all my devices—laptop, phone, iPad, and, of course, my Nintendo Switch. The speeds were fast. I clocked it at 209 Mbps download and 180 Mbps upload using Ookla Speedtest, which is a really strong result for a hotel.
At the time of testing, this performance ranked inside the Top 10 on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard—but rankings change over time, so if you want to see where it currently stands, you can check out the full leaderboard on my website.
When it came to gaming, getting my Nintendo Switch connected to the TV took a bit of trial and error. I initially tried using the quick-connect setup on the side of the dresser, but that didn’t work.
What I ended up doing was disconnecting the HDMI cable coming from the Marriott Entertainment Center box and plugging my Switch dock directly into the main HDMI input on the TV instead. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.
The only downside here was the outlet setup around the desk—it could have been better. If you travel with a lot of devices like I do, definitely bring a power strip. I always pack one, and it came in handy here.
Pool, Gym & Rooftop Terrace
For a downtown hotel, the amenities here are actually better than you might expect.
The indoor pool area has a relaxed vibe and is a solid place to unwind after a long day. It’s not huge, but it fits the hotel well and is definitely usable.
The fitness center was clean and modern, with everything you’d need for a good workout.
One feature that stood out though was the rooftop terrace. This isn’t something you see at every hotel, and it adds a nice extra layer to the stay. It’s a great place to step outside, get some fresh air, and take in a different perspective of downtown Hamilton.
Food Options (This Is Where It Gets Good)
This is where the Sheraton Hamilton really starts to stand out.
You’ve got food options inside the hotel, direct indoor access through Jackson Square, and a ton of local restaurants just steps away—so you’re covered no matter what you’re in the mood for.
Inside the hotel, you’ve got Chagall’s Restaurant, LOFT Lounge, room service, and a Starbucks. That already gives you a solid base without needing to leave the building.
Then you’ve got Jackson Square, which connects you to even more options including the food court and Nations Fresh Foods. Nations is worth calling out because it’s more than just a grocery store—it has a huge selection of ready-to-eat meals and takeout, which is perfect if you want something quick.
We also checked out the Hamilton Farmers’ Market, which is right there as well. I grabbed a pint of strawberry milk from Summit Station Dairy, and honestly, it was the best flavoured milk I’ve ever had. My dad agreed and even said we should visit their farm store one day.
For dinner, we went to HAMBRGR, which was really good. I had the CHEE’BRGR-CHEE’BRGR, my dad had THE FAKE SHACK, and my mom had MATTY’S DAMN FINE FRIED CHICKEN SANDO. Our waitress said the chicken sandwich was underrated—and after trying it, I actually liked it more than my burger.
We also shared a BANANA NUTELLA milkshake, which was awesome.
Later on, we stopped at Cowabunga Pizzeria, another spot recommended by the hotel staff. We grabbed a slice of their award-winning cheese pizza, and it definitely lived up to the hype.
There were also a few other nearby spots recommended by the hotel that looked worth checking out, including Electric Diner, The Mule, and Undefined—all within walking distance.
And if you’ve been watching my channel, you already know I love Detroit-style pizza. One place I definitely want to try next time is MaiPai. It’s a super popular tiki bar known for its Detroit-style pizza, and pretty much every staff member I spoke with recommended it—some even said it’s their favourite restaurant in Hamilton.
The only catch is that it’s so popular, you’ll need to make a reservation well in advance if you want to get in.
Sheraton Club Lounge
Because my dad is a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, we had access to the Sheraton Club Lounge—and this ended up being one of the highlights of the stay.
The lounge has a really nice setup with lots of seating and great views over the city. It has a calm, comfortable feel that makes it easy to relax.
In the evening, they offered hors d’oeuvres with a selection of hot items, meats and cheeses, fruit, and vegetables. It was a solid offering and worked well as a light dinner.
Breakfast the next morning included home fries, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, breads, pastries, muffins, cereals, and fresh fruit. One thing that stood out right away was the waffle maker—this was the first hotel lounge I’ve seen with one.
Out of the three Sheraton Club lounges I’ve visited so far, this one was my favourite.
Things to Do Near the Hotel
This hotel makes it really easy to explore downtown Hamilton.
The Hamilton Tourism Office is less than a five-minute walk away, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton is right across the street. The Hamilton Farmers’ Market is also close by and definitely worth checking out.
Since the hotel is directly connected to Jackson Square, you also have access to shopping, quick food options, and even Landmark Cinemas, which makes it a great option if you want to catch a movie without having to leave the area.
If you’re in town for events, this is a great location. TD Coliseum is less than a five-minute walk from the hotel and hosts concerts, events, and sports—including the Toronto Rock lacrosse team.
FirstOntario Concert Hall is also just a short walk away, giving you even more options for shows and live events.
If you’re up for exploring a bit more, Dundurn Castle and Bayfront Park are both within about a 30-minute walk.
And if you’re heading to a bigger event, Hamilton Stadium—formerly Tim Hortons Field—is about a 15-minute drive away and is home to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Forge FC.
One unique detail about this hotel is something happening right on the building itself. Every spring, a pair of peregrine falcons nest high atop the hotel as part of the Hamilton Community Peregrine Project. In 2024, falcon parents McKeever and Judson successfully hatched four chicks, continuing a really cool local conservation story.

Things to Do Update: Hockey Is Coming Back to Hamilton
One thing that actually happened right after my stay could completely change the energy around this hotel.
The New York Islanders announced that their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, will be relocating to Hamilton for the 2026–2027 season. The team will play at the newly renovated TD Coliseum.
That means something big — hockey is coming back to downtown Hamilton.
And when that happens, hotels like the Sheraton Hamilton are going to become even more important.
With its direct connection to the convention centre and central downtown location, this hotel is perfectly positioned for hockey fans, team travel, events, and weekend stays.
You can already picture the shift — more energy, more movement, and a busier downtown overall.
This stay almost felt like a snapshot of the hotel before that change happens.
Final Verdict – Sheraton Hamilton Hotel Review (Teen Perspective)
So, what’s the final verdict in this Sheraton Hamilton Hotel review from a teen perspective?
This is one of those hotels that just works.
It’s not trying to be over-the-top or flashy, but it delivers where it matters. The location is one of its biggest strengths—you’re connected to everything, and it makes the entire stay feel easier.
The Wi-Fi is strong, the amenities are solid, and the recent renovation in 2024 really helps modernize the experience while still keeping that classic hotel feel.
From a teen perspective, this is a really well-rounded stay. Whether you’re here for a concert, a game, a quick city trip, or even just a weekend getaway, it checks a lot of important boxes.
And honestly, that’s what makes it easy to recommend.
