  • Aloft Vaughan Mills Hotel Review: Great Location, But Is It Worth It?

Sometimes the best hotel locations don’t just put you near the action — and in this Aloft Vaughan Mills hotel review, you’ll see why this one drops you right in the middle of it.

The Aloft Vaughan Mills is located steps from one of the biggest malls in Canada and just minutes from Canada’s Wonderland — but is this hotel actually worth staying at, or is it just all about location?

I stayed here as part of my Hometown Ontario Hotel Series to see if this modern, social-style hotel actually delivers from a teen perspective — and in this Aloft Vaughan Mills hotel review, I’m breaking down whether it’s actually worth it.

First Impressions: A Different Kind of Marriott

Right away, this hotel feels completely different from most Marriott properties I’ve stayed at — and honestly, that’s what makes it interesting.

The lobby feels more like a lounge than a traditional hotel. It’s not huge, but it’s designed in a way that actually works better. Everything feels close, connected, and easy to move through.

There’s seating everywhere — couches, tables, and high-top areas — but what really stands out is the pool table right in the middle of the space. It instantly gives the hotel a more social, hangout-type vibe instead of that typical quiet hotel feel.

The WXYZ Bar adds to that energy with lounge seating and a big TV, and right beside it is the Re:fuel pantry, which is perfect for quick snacks or drinks without having to leave the hotel.

Check-in was quick and smooth, and Sagitha at the front desk made a great first impression by being friendly and making sure everything was set for the stay.

Room Tour: Different Layout, Smaller Space

We stayed in a 2 Queen room on the sixth floor, and the layout is definitely not what you’d expect.

Instead of walking straight into the bedroom area, you actually pass the bathroom space first. It’s a small detail, but it changes how the room feels right away.

The bathroom includes a stand-up shower, and interestingly, the mini fridge is tucked under the sink area, which is something I don’t see very often in hotels.

Once you get into the main room, it’s bright and clean, with a modern design that fits the Aloft brand really well. The only thing is that it does feel a bit smaller than a typical 2 Queen setup. That said, it’s still functional and comfortable — just a bit tighter than expected.

Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup: Right on the Edge

The Wi-Fi here landed right in that middle zone. One thing that stands out in this Aloft Vaughan Mills hotel review is how the Wi-Fi sits right on the edge of usable depending on what you’re doing.

Speeds came in at about 20 Mbps down and 20.5 Mbps up on Speedtest, which puts it right on the border between usable and slow depending on what you’re doing. As of now, it ranks #36 on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard.

Connecting devices was easy across the board — laptop, phone, iPad, and my Nintendo Switch all connected without issues.

The gaming setup was actually pretty solid thanks to the swing-out TV mount, which makes accessing the ports much easier. The only challenge was that the Marriott entertainment box is mounted high on the TV, so reaching it took a bit of effort.

If you’re bringing a console, definitely bring a longer HDMI cable — it makes a big difference in setups like this.

Pool Vibes & Gym: Better Than Expected

The pool area is a solid size, clean, and nicely heated, which makes it easy to enjoy without feeling crowded.

One feature that really stood out was the full set of stairs along one side of the pool. It makes getting in and out much easier compared to the usual ladder setup.

There’s a decent amount of seating around the pool, and it also connects to an outdoor patio area. It was closed during my stay, but you can tell it would be a really good hangout space in the summer with couches and outdoor seating.

The gym was also a pleasant surprise. It’s not massive, but it’s well-equipped with a mix of strength and cardio equipment, including a multi-gym setup, free weights, kettlebells, and several treadmills and ellipticals. It’s definitely enough for a full workout.

Food: Convenient, But Location Is the Real Win

Food at the Aloft Vaughan Mills is simple — and honestly, that’s kind of the point.

Inside the hotel, you’ve got two main options. Re:fuel is the grab-and-go pantry where you can pick up snacks, drinks, and quick meals, while the WXYZ Bar offers a small evening menu in a more lounge-style setting. It fits the overall vibe of the hotel — casual, flexible, and easy.

For breakfast, we used Marriott Bonvoy Titanium grab-and-go vouchers. My dad went with the OG B.E.C. sandwich, and I tried the egg and chorizo wrap. Both tasted good, but the wrap was noticeably smaller than expected and didn’t really match the photo on the menu, which was a bit disappointing.

One of the biggest takeaways from this Aloft Vaughan Mills hotel review is how much the location impacts the overall food experience. But here’s the thing — the food inside the hotel isn’t really the main story.

The location completely changes everything.

Vaughan Mills is literally right across the parking lot, which means you have instant access to a huge range of food options without needing to drive anywhere. We grabbed Poulet Rouge — a great spot for customizable grilled chicken bowls — and brought it back to the room, which was super easy.

And if you’re willing to go just a little farther, within 5 to 10 minutes you’ve got even more choices, from sit-down restaurants to fast casual spots.

That’s what makes this hotel different.

It’s not about having the best food inside the hotel — it’s about having some of the most convenient food access outside of it.

Things to Do Near Aloft Vaughan Mills Hotel Review

This is where the Aloft Vaughan Mills really stands out.

Vaughan Mills is directly across the parking lot, and it’s one of the largest malls in Canada. The circular layout makes it easy to explore without getting lost, and there’s a mix of shopping and attractions inside, including the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and a massive Bass Pro Shops with a huge fish tank.

There’s also even more coming soon, with a brand new Playdium expected to open in summer 2026. It’s planned to be the largest in Canada and will include arcade games, climbing walls, and other interactive attractions.

If you’re looking for more entertainment, you’ve got spots like Dave & Buster’s and GameTime Social within a short drive.

And then there’s Canada’s Wonderland, which is less than 10 minutes away and easily one of the biggest reasons to stay here. With major roller coasters and a full water park, it’s a huge draw for families and teens.

If you want something more relaxed, Cineplex Colossus is also nearby and is one of the most recognizable movie theatres in Ontario.

Real Moment: The 2:30 AM Fire Alarm

This was one of the most unexpected moments I’ve had during a hotel stay.

At around 2:30 in the morning, the fire alarm went off. We started getting ready to head downstairs, and then suddenly it stopped.

When we got to the lobby, there were firefighters, police, and emergency vehicles outside. It turned out someone had pulled the alarm.

What stood out most was how the hotel handled it. Staff were calm, clear, and reassured guests right away. The next morning, they followed up and apologized, which was appreciated.

It wasn’t something caused by the hotel, but moments like that show how well a team responds under pressure — and they handled it well.

Final Verdict: Should You Stay Here?

So who is this hotel really for?

This is a perfect fit for families with teens, especially if you’re planning a trip to Canada’s Wonderland or a shopping weekend at Vaughan Mills. The location makes everything incredibly easy — you can go from roller coasters to your room, or from shopping bags to a recharge break, without wasting time.

But what really makes this hotel stand out isn’t just where it is — it’s how it feels.

The biggest strength here is the vibe. This doesn’t feel like a traditional hotel. It feels more like a modern social space, which makes it way more enjoyable to stay in, especially as a teen.

The biggest drawback is the Wi-Fi, which sits right on the edge of usable, along with slightly smaller room sizes than you might expect from a 2 Queen setup.

Overall, this Aloft Vaughan Mills hotel review shows that this hotel is more about location and vibe than luxury.

And honestly, that’s what made it stand out — and what makes this one This Teen Travelz Approved.

Staff Shoutout
