Delta Hotels Toronto Markham Hotel Review: Practical Stay with an Asterisk

This Delta Hotels Toronto Markham review starts with a little backstory: this hotel used to be the Edward Hotel Markham, but after a major renovation, it’s now the Delta Hotels Toronto Markham.

So the big question is — does it actually feel like a fresh Marriott stay?

The room was better than I expected, the food options were strong, and the Delta Pantry had one thing that immediately got my attention. But the Wi-Fi, breakfast setup, and gaming hookup? That’s where things got a little more complicated.

We stayed here for one night as part of my Hometown Ontario Series to see how this Marriott hotel in Markham holds up from a teen perspective.

Delta Hotels Toronto Markham Review: Arrival & First Impressions

Right away, one thing that stood out during this Delta Hotels Toronto Markham review was how bright, clean, and practical the hotel felt.

Right when we pulled up, there were plenty of luggage carts available near the entrance, which is always a win because nobody wants to arrive at a hotel and immediately have to go searching for one.

Walking into the lobby, the design felt warm and modern. The reception desk was on the right, and to the left you had the hotel Starbucks and bar area. The lobby also connects to a lot of the hotel’s main amenities, including the Boston Pizza entrance, hotel market, business center, gym, and indoor pool.

The lobby itself was pretty large, with lots of different seating areas spread throughout the space. Some were open, some felt a little cozier, and overall it gave the hotel more of a full-service feel. It didn’t feel like one of those hotels where the lobby is just a front desk and a hallway. This actually felt like a space where you could sit and hang out for a bit.

Check-in was quick and easy. Tanay checked us in, let us know we had been upgraded, and also answered a bunch of my questions about the property.

Right away, this hotel gave off a solid first impression. Not super flashy, but clean, warm, and practical.

Room Tour: A Suite Upgrade That Worked

For this stay, my dad originally booked a standard two queen room, but we were upgraded to a one king suite.

The suite was split into two sections: a living room area and a bedroom. Overall, it felt clean, cozy, and warm.

The living room had a comfortable couch, plenty of side tables, space for luggage, a small desk, an armchair, and sliding doors that separated it from the bedroom. I do wish the desk area had more outlets, and the living room TV could have been a bit bigger, especially for a suite.

The bedroom had a king bed, plenty of outlets and USB ports, and a larger TV mounted in the corner.

The bathroom was bright and had a smart layout. The vanity area could be separated from the toilet and shower area with a door, which makes it easier when more than one person is getting ready. The shower had great water pressure and temperature.

And the most random feature? The toilet had a heated seat.

Apparently, all suites here have them. To be honest, I didn’t really notice the difference, but it was still funny to see because that is not something I come across often in hotel rooms.

For this stay, I went full lazy teenager mode and didn’t even pull out the sofa bed. I just slept on the couch — and honestly, it was really comfortable.

So overall, the room was one of the stronger parts of this stay.

Wi-Fi & Gaming Setup

Now let’s talk Wi-Fi and gaming.

Connecting to the hotel Wi-Fi was easy on all my devices — laptop, phone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch. Using Ookla Speedtest, I got 45.1 Mbps download and 45.8 Mbps upload.

That makes the Wi-Fi decent for streaming, browsing, and everyday use, but definitely not one of the fastest hotel Wi-Fi speeds I’ve tested. You can see where it currently ranks on my Hotel Wi-Fi Speed Leaderboard.

Gaming was a little more complicated.

There were two TVs in the suite. The living room TV was wall-mounted, and I couldn’t find an easy way to connect my HDMI cable there. The bedroom TV worked better because it was on a swing-out mount, but even that took some problem-solving.

I had to move a coffee table over, unplug the Marriott entertainment box, use that outlet for my Nintendo Switch, and swap the HDMI cable. So yes, I got the Nintendo Switch working — but it took way more steps than it should have.

For a renovated hotel, especially one that feels newer in a lot of areas, TV access should be easier.

Pool Vibes & Gym

Next up — pool vibes.

The indoor pool was a pretty good size for the hotel, and the area felt warm and bright. If you’re looking for a Markham hotel with an indoor pool, this definitely checks that box.

But there were two downsides.

First, there wasn’t much seating. I only saw four armchairs in the pool area, so if it got busy, that could be an issue.

Second, the hot tub wasn’t working during my stay, which was disappointing because the setup actually looked really cool and different from other hotel hot tubs I’ve seen. Hopefully during your stay, the hot tub is up and running.

The gym, though, was solid.

It was big, bright, and had a good mix of equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, a Peloton, yoga equipment, a weight rack, weight benches, a multi-gym, a leg press, and other strength equipment.

So overall, the pool was useful, the hot tub was a miss during my stay, and the gym was better than expected.

Food Options: One of the Stronger Parts of the Stay

Food is one of the stronger parts of this hotel.

The most convenient option is that the hotel is connected to a Boston Pizza. That’s a nice bonus, especially if you don’t feel like driving anywhere or you just want something easy.

One of the best things about the location is how many restaurants are within about a five-minute drive. If you head west from the hotel, there are lots of sit-down options nearby, including:

• Fionn MacCool’s
• Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar
• Lone Star Texas Grill
• Moxies
• The Keg Steakhouse + Bar
• Baton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar
• Marlowe Restaurant & Bar

If you head east, you’ll also find quick and casual options like:

• Kelsey’s
• Jersey Mike’s
• Chipotle

These are just some of the restaurants in the area. For our stay, me and my dad wanted something fast, easy, and good, so we went to Jersey Mike’s.

Since my dad is a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member, we also had access to the Delta Pantry. The pantry had a decent selection of snacks, drinks, breads, spreads, cookies, pastries, cereal, coffee, tea, and hard-boiled eggs.

But let’s be honest — the freezer was the highlight.

They had a variety of Chapman’s ice cream options, including ice cream cups, Yukon vanilla ice cream bars, and fudge bars. At first, unlimited hotel ice cream sounds amazing. And it kind of was. But after a while, there’s only so much ice cream you can eat.

The bigger issue was breakfast.

Compared to other Delta Hotels I’ve stayed at, this breakfast setup was disappointing. The pantry didn’t have much for breakfast, and this was the first Delta Hotel I’ve stayed at where breakfast was not offered as a welcome gift for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and higher.

That stood out because at Delta Hotels Toronto Airport & Conference Centre, the pantry had a better breakfast selection, including microwavable breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast was also offered as a welcome gift option at check-in.

This hotel does offer a paid Delta Breakfast through Boston Pizza or room delivery. Options included things like eggs your way, an egg white frittata, Mediterranean omelet, avocado toast, different eggs benedicts, a breakfast bowl, banana bread French toast, ricotta blueberry pancakes, and classic steel-cut oats.

So food options overall are strong, especially around the hotel. But from an elite member breakfast perspective, this part was definitely a letdown.

Things to Do Near the Hotel

When it comes to things to do nearby, this location is more practical than exciting.

There isn’t a ton right outside the hotel, so I’d think of this more as a driving-location hotel than a super walkable one. That said, it’s convenient if you need a hotel in Markham Ontario, a hotel near Highway 404 and 407, or a base for getting around Markham and the north GTA.

One of the best nearby spots is Main Street Unionville, which is less than a 15-minute drive away. This is probably the most interesting area nearby if you want something with more character, restaurants, shops, and a nice place to walk around. The area is known for its historic buildings and has been used as a filming location, so it has more of that small-town, old-main-street feel compared to the area right around the hotel.

Another easy option is Cineplex Cinemas Markham and VIP, which is less than 10 minutes away. So if you’re staying here with family or you just want something simple to do at night, that’s probably one of the easiest choices.

Overall, I wouldn’t stay here because there’s tons to do right outside the hotel. I’d stay here because it’s convenient, has free parking, gives you easy access around Markham and the north GTA, and works well if you already have plans nearby.

Final Verdict – Delta Hotels Toronto Markham Review

This one was actually hard for me to decide.

The room was great, the food options were solid, and having access to the Delta Pantry was honestly pretty fun. I was definitely excited when I saw how much ice cream they had in there — because obviously, hotel ice cream sounds amazing at first.

But after a while, that excitement did fade a little because there’s only so much ice cream you can eat. And to be fair, not every guest has access to the pantry, so that perk is really going to depend on your Marriott Bonvoy status.

The biggest disappointment for me was probably breakfast, especially compared to other Delta Hotels I’ve stayed at. This was the first Delta Hotel I’ve stayed at where breakfast was not offered as a welcome gift, and my family has stayed at a majority of Delta Hotels in Ontario.

So that part was a letdown.

The Wi-Fi was average, the gaming setup took way more steps than it should have, the hot tub wasn’t working, and there wasn’t a ton to do right around the hotel.

But the room was comfortable, the hotel had good food options nearby, the pool was still something you could rely on, and overall, the stay worked.

So after going back and forth on this one, I’m going to say Delta Hotels Toronto Markham is This Teen Travelz Approved — but with an asterisk.

This isn’t one of the most exciting hotels I’ve reviewed, and it’s not a hotel I’d build a whole trip around. But if your parents book it, it’s also not the worst hotel you could get dragged to.

The room is good, the pool helps, the pantry is fun if you have access, and the hotel makes sense for a practical Markham stay.

So yes, it gets the approval — but this is definitely more of a solid, practical stay than a must-visit hotel.
